I'm starting Keto again, but I always fall off the wagon. I need advice

#1

Question: 4 hours ago, I ate a thick, juicy 16-ounce blade steak. I plan to wait until I’m hungry again before I eat. Or should I see how long I can go without eating? And when I eat again, what should I eat?

This is my first day back on Keto. The last time I tried Keto, I never had really good guidance. I always seem to go back to my regular way of eating, which is why I’m trying to start Keto again.

Any suggestions.
Thank you.

Are you doing carnavore this go around? There is a forum here devoted to that with many who have done it successfully. Or just wanting good keto info.? If that is the case start here:

You are starting with the most important thing which is to make a plan. I plan a days worth of food in the morning. I plan the amount of protein, fat and carbs that I feel is appropriate and make my menu reflect that. I can’t tell how hungry I will be and often don’t eat everything but can if needed.Making a plan is a plan for success.

If you are truly not hungry then wait until you are, but I would suggest not waiting until you are REALLY hungry before eating your next meal. If you get too hungry, you will probably be more likely to reach for a quick carby snack.

I’m not sure which direction I’m going to take, but I’m starting with Keto. Presently I’m just gathering information. Thank you.

I’d add a few caveats - there’s different kinds of fats, so you need to ensure you’re getting enough essential fatty acids (EFAs). Definitely avoid industrial seed oils. I use only high polyphenol EVOO, 100% avocado oil, coconut oil for cooking. Eat lots of macadamia nuts, oily fish.
Next you need to ensure all essential amino acids (EAAs) in your intake. I often supplement with a small amount EAAs powder to ensure I get enough leucine. Total protein intake should be at least 1.6g/kg. Collagen alone doesn’t count.

Avoid all processed foods particularly UPFs. Minimally processed is okay e.g. fermented foods like cheese and sauerkraut. Avoid anything with added protein. Get your protein directly from animal sources. Beware hidden sugars.

The only reason my keto did not succeed in the past is when getting hungry and there is no keto food around me, so I will just eat my wife cheasekake and donuts.

So make sure before getting hungry that you have keto food around.

Plan your meals. Keep keto foods in the fridge when you get hungry and want something quick and easy. Such as:

Cottage cheese with chopped tomatoes and green onions. An old Weight Watchers recipe but it is so good.

Chicken or tuna salad.

Egg salad.

Beef jerky - I make my own so it has no sugar or weird ingredients.

Quick meal - scrambled or fried eggs in a lot of butter or bacon grease. A meal in 5 minutes!

Cook up a batch of bacon and store in the fridge to add to eggs, burger patties, etc.

Cook up extra hamburger patties and reheat with a slice of cheese (or fried egg or bacon) on top.

The key is to have things on hand so you aren’t tempted to grab some carbage out of convenience.

Good luck!
