I'm shrinking but not really losing

HI everyone, I am new here to the forum. I need to lose over 100 lbs. I started fasting in January, usually I am 20/4 during most weeks and 16 or 18 on the weekends. I just started Keto about 5 weeks ago: My weight loss has been 7 lbs but I am shrinking. Last year I had all my blood work done and my inflammation markers were high: is my body shrinkage due to becoming less inflamed? For the life of me I cannot find anything on the web about inflammation and body composition…Thoughts?
I’d like to be losing more lbs, but I have lost 4.5 inches off my waist and 1.5 inches off my hips… so I’ll take it :):grinning:

Thank you for sharing this. The only biomarker which didn’t improve after I began eating ketogenically was my c-reactive protein. This article gave me some options for further experimentation!

Inches are better than pounds, anyway.

I believe the saying is that women lose inches while they want to lose pounds and men lose pounds when they want to lose inches.

We often confuse the words “fat” and “weight.” I believe that if you think about things for a moment, you will realize that what you really want to lose is the excess stored fat in your adipose tissue, however much it weighs, not a specific poundage.

What is happening to you is not related particularly to inflammation, but is rather that your body is putting on muscle at the same time as it is shedding fat. Your body has been wanting to put on the extra muscle tissue for years, but the calorie restriction you have been imposing has prevented that. You are finally giving it all the energy it needs, and it is so happy that it is rewarding you with new muscle tissue. Since muscle is denser than fat, it takes up less space, hence the shrinking of your clothing size.
