Help please. I started my diet a month ago and significantly lost about 5kg. Now I’m on my 2nd month and my weight is stalling. I’m getting really worried about it. Did anyone ever have the same experience?
I'm on my 2nd month of keto and my weight is not going down anymore
Thanks. I’ll try to do that. The scale is crushing my spirit but I still choose to go on because I know the benefits will be for long term.
I only do the scales every 10 days for that very reason. They are in my hubby’s truck, so they go to work with him! Lol
Just about everyone stalls after the first month. Some just wait it out and start loosing again in a few weeks or months. You could try a fast to jumpstart it. I had to do an egg fast to get mine rolling again.
I do have to bring my fat level slightly lower during weight loss closer to my protein level in grams. When I go into maintenance then my fat is slightly higher in grams Comapred to protein.
I know people don’t like that but it is my truth and if I ignore it all I get are my fat pants back again. I’m maintaining a 70+ pound weight loss over 5.5 years. I weigh myself daily and plot the data so I can make adjustments every 4 to 5 days depending on trends Good luck and you’ll get to know your body for sure. Your body will let you know what is and isn’t working.
Nobody else is going to pay my insurance premiums and they charge quite a bit for weight regain.
I had good success with combining up a 17:7 fasting protocol and eating in the morning from 6 AM until about 1 PM or so I tried the evening eating and it only added unintentional weight gain. Listening to your body and making adjustments to your own feedback is best.
That was the big theme of low-carb USA this year. Lots of folks on keto but lots of different versions. Because we all had different bio individual results from ourselves experiments
Onward and your body will keep letting you know what it needs as you go.
I’d like to echo Jeremy’s comment, stalling after a month or so is very common, especially for women. The 2ketodudes podcast has a couple episodes that you might find helpful on this subject: episode 15 - Plateaus and episode 32 - Femail. Don’t get discouraged, keep going!
Thanks so much for this. It’s nice to be able to know through other people’s experiences. It gives me more motivation to keep going
This!! I got blasted in another group by an “admin” for suggesting this to someone. I need to do the same thing as well.
That’s the funny thing about weight loss and weight maintenance. We’ve seem to lost the ability to critically think take data make changes for the better. And get stopped sooner when it’s for the worst
Here’s to data collecting adjusting maintaining or losing, and then repeating for your whole life
I’ve made more adjustments and shifts in my 5.5 years of weight maintenance than I ever did in my 40 years of being obese yo-yo dieting and being overweight. Critical thinking and data collection are key so I am applauding you today.
I agree that some people need to eat less fat to lose weight on a ketogenic diet. But, where I disagree (or need to precise) is about the timing. You only decrease your fat intake after being fat adapted. I don’t know if Meg is fat adapted, but I don’t think she is. It’s too soon to decrease her fat intake.
IMO, Meg, you should wait it out if you’re patient. If you’re not (I’m not either), maybe you can try fasting, whether water or fat fasting.
That is EXACTLY what I have to do and seems to be a lot who eat the same amount even as their weight drops.
I’m a firm believer that you have to continually adjust.
That is correct. But I don’t think it takes that long as long as the macros have been correct to get her adapted.
It depends. Some people take up to 2 months. But I don’t know if Meg is fat adapted because she doesn’t say.
I was stalled for 4 months. What helped me was to drop sweeteners and nuts. I upped my fat as well. I’m still not fat adapted after 8 months. I have made progress despite that. I’ve added some IF in as I am a client at Dr Fung’s long distance program.
I know that Keto has improved my life in other ways. I have more energy now. I sleep much better. My migraines have decreased in frequency and severity. My knees are less painful.
Measure yourself, take pictures and realize that the scale can be a liar. I continue to weigh daily but my weekly average number continues to drop very slowly. That’s the number I look at.
Just keep swimming because it really is worth it.
I would check out The Two Keto Dudes Podcast: switching it up with Megan Ramos . It basically talks about switching up your eating patterns that happen from the body naturally trying to prevent its self from losing weight.
What I did to get through my stall was to start with Intermittent Fasting a couple of days a week and eventually started doing a couple 24-48 hour fasts once every 3-4 weeks. If you are constantly eating at a deficit, your body will naturally try to reduce energy consumption to avoid losing fat stores.
As other people also mentioned I would highly suggest measuring yourself. For about a month I was stuck at 245 but noticed my waistline had decreased by a couple of inches.
