I'm OK, You're OK

Have you ever wondered how you and others make decisions that get you closer to your goals or further away.

Bout 25 years ago, with a personal growth expert, I developed a course "TA (Transactional Analysis) for Weight Control.

Basically the cause was about recognising how the parent, adult and child within us takes charge of decision making, especially with food choices in most situations.

The parent within us describes the belief-based instructions like “You have to finish your plate.” and “You must eat breakfast.”

The adult within us is more rational making decisions in the here and now. “No thanks. Just not hungry.”

The child within us is emotionally driven “We’ve been good. It’s just a treat. We deserve it.” You can actually sit in cafes and see grown overweight/obese adults go into this mode and they’ll actually adopt child-like facial expressions as they order the cake that they definitely do not need.

And so next time you’re faced with a food/drink decision, see which brain pops up, the parent, adult or child.

Of course, I thought of Eric Berne (Games People Play) when I saw the title of your post. Yes, but…

I think you are missing a category, or perhaps mislabeling categories. Missing these:

Informed adult

Misinformed adult

Since a misinformed adult will make the wrong choice (margarine is better than butter, saturated fat is bad for me, healthy whole grains are better than eggs, etc)
