I'm new to Keto, few days in... want to make sure I'm on the right track, help!

Hello keto community,

I just decided to try this keto diet after hearing so much rave about it. A little background:

I’m a bus driver so I sit around alot and gained aboit 20 pounds ever since I started. I currently weight 167 and I am 5’6 with 27 percent body fat. After using a keto calculator my macros are supposed to be…

12-15g carbs
72g protein
130g fat

After 3 days of doing it I honestly feel perfectly fine and don’t feel the keto flu, except for diarrhea but it’s like once a day. I read that it’s normal but it should change in a week or so.

I feel like maybe my macros are off, so I just wanted to make sure I’m on the right track and advice will be helpful.

Today for breakfast I had 3 eggs 4 strips of bacon and about 25g avocado and used about 200g of butter. This adds up to 30g of protein, 42 of fat and 3.8g of carbs. I also just had a coffee with a splash of cream.

Why don’t I feel sick yet am I doing something wrong?

Also is it okay to eat as much jello as I want due to the 0g of carbs?

Thanks in advance!

DR Rusty says you need more bacon…lol

Jello should be fine. Macros look ok, shoot for under 20 carbs, hit your protein goal, and the fat is to fill you up, it isn’t really a goal, more of a limit. Not everyone gets sick, if you are taking plenty of salt you may not. Everything sounds normal and good to me. 200g of butter sounds like a lot!

 are you being sarcastic or serious? Can’t tell lol… eating fat has always been a nono for me so it feels so wrong lol…

I’m joking…But, I go though a couple pounds a week.

Thanks for the feedback, sorry I made a mistake 100g of butter. Thought it was 200g. So you recommend 20 carbs a day, why? Isn’t it better the lower portion of carbs? I wouldn’t mind upping it or lowering it just curious as I’ve heard that amount a few times.

Also what happens if I over eat on protein and under eat on the fat?

Each person is different, but you only need to restrict carbs enough to get you into ketosis. Without insulin issues 50-100 should get a lot of people there, 20 all but the very unlucky few. There is no real point in going lower than what it takes to get you into ketosis unless the extra carbs make you feel bad.

what happens if I over eat on protein and under eat on the fat?

For the most part nothing unless you way overeat protein and eat almost no fat. Undereating fat just means your using the fat you already have on your body.

Thanks for the quick responses. Do you know of anything that has more fiber than carbs you can recommend to eat?

If for example a vegi has 5g carbs and 6g fiber, can I eat that all day as much as I want?

Overeating protean more than your body needs as building blocks, will cause the protean to turn into sugar.

You can’t under eat on fat as long as two thigns are true:

  1. You are in ketosis, and
  2. You have had enough fat to not be hungry.

That is an error, dietary fiber is made from carbs. So, carbs can never be below dietary fiber. If you see that somewhere then it may be a rounding error or something, but it isn’t really true.
