I'm new to keto and am having trouble getting enough fat

Hi everyone. I realize there are some old threads on this topic, but I would really love advice on adding more fat to my diet.

Hi Zinnia, welcome to the forums. Its a bit difficult to advise without knowing what you prefer to eat or what you’re current eating habits are. Some people struggle with the concept of eating so much fat in their diet, especially after a lifetime of advice telling us not to eat fat.

Butter on everything
Higher fat meats
Bulletproof coffee
Avocado

I cringe whenever I see a complaint about “not getting enough fat”. Your fat macro is an upper limit, not a goal to reach. If you’re not feeling hungry, you probably don’t need to consume more fat.

Having said that, I have several favorite high fat foods that I have to avoid because I get too many calories eating them – bacon, sausage, cheese, butter.

If you really want to get more fat, do a Google search on “fat bombs”. There are thousands of recipes for them out there.

Have a side of butter with every meal
Smear all veg with mayo
Eat fat bombs
Make sure you eat the fattiest meat cuts eg pork belly
Eat streaky bacon
High fat nuts eg macadamias
Cream and cream cheese for dessert
Pate: favourite snack right now: pate and butter… numnumnum

I’ve actually lost some weight while switching to keto, and I shouldn’t actually be losing weight right now…so I need to make sure I get calories & fat in my diet…

I have bacon (4 strips) with mini tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and pesto sauce (sometimes w/ heavy cream) for breakfast!

I’ve started making my self shakes that basically just have:

  1. canned coconut milk (macros are so much better than the 1/2 gallon you buy in the dairy area)
  2. 6 or so tablespoons of peanut butter
  3. 1 tbsp or plain chocolate powder
  4. (avocado optional)
  5. water to thin it out
