I’m trying my best to stay under 20grams of carbs. Taking enough fat but i think my protein intake increases a few times. Also I was an insomniac throughout my life but after a week of keto I’m sleeping so much. Is that normal?
I'm losing weight in inches and I've lost only 2kgs in almost a month. Not using ketone sticks as well are those important?
Sounds like you are making progress.
Better sleep is a very good thing in my book, yes it improves on KETO.
There are plenty of folks who do measure ketones and plenty who do not - the most important measurement are your results.
Hi,
How are you tracking your carb content. Suggest using an online tool like fatsecret.com or myfitnesspal rather than reading labels and guessing. Hidden carbs can be a nightmare. If you are keeping your carbs below 20g a day then you should be in ketosis.
When you eat is just as important as what you eat. If your appetite has started to decrease consider only eating 2 meals a day in a 6 hr window.
If you were calorie restricted before keto then your metabolism is likely still gearing up and learning to trust you again.
The scale can be a bad indicator of progress on a keto diet, its fat you want to lose not weight. When you drop insulin the body can get protein into your cells again and you quickly build up lean body mass, this is why we can lose inch but not weight.
Make sure you are getting everything right in your diet and once that is confirmed just relax and enjoy the process, weight loss will come eventually.
Thank you so much. Yes I track my calories and macros on myfitnesspal and my appetite has decreased. I try and not eat anything if I’m not hungry.
Actually I was not consuming rice, junk, pastas or any sweets before I started Keto.
So basically people can tone without adding any strength training to their activities?
I wouldn’t say that you tone… You can put on a little lean mass from your regular routine now that you don’t need the fat, but you could also be adding bone density.
Inches are better than pounds. They point to recomposition, which is the real goal.
One of the keys to losing weight is to lower insulin. Perhaps your insulin is low, or you are still eating food that raises insulin. Or maybe your cortisol level is high from stress or working night shift. Don’t know. I have heard people can lose weight by not eating. Who knew?
Thank you. I feel much better now. I don’t like it when people ask how much weight have you lost.
It’s shorthand. Folks will comment on your appearance. The weight is a means to the discussion but should only be a tool of recomposition of the body and restitution of the health.
I have not lost a single pound so far going Keto (about two weeks fully in) but I have lost 9 inches overall. I usually do not see any movement on the scale for about a month and then see a large drop in weight with any diet I have tried. It is just how my body functions. My husband is the exact opposite. I also have issues balancing my Macros because I prefer to eat lean protein so I have to come up with ways to add fat. I have to say that I am sleeping better and not waking up as much as a use to. I use to be up every hour or two and only sleep about 4-6 hours a night. Now I am getting 8 to 9 straight hours of sleep and my internal clock is starting to wake me up at 6 am each morning, regardless if I work or not. I have been told to just stick to it and focus on how your body is feeling more than what the scale is saying! Best of luck on your journey!
I needed to see this today. The scale has been stuck for a while now, but I can tell by my pants and shirts that I am losing fat. It is a mental game, isn’t it? You want that scale to move!
Yes you do! I have been doing an experiment where I have increased running to 30+ miles a week. I also started Strength training three days a week. I am sure I am adding mass but the scale is slowly dropping. I expected the scale to go up slightly. Very close to my goal weight so right now I am just having fun with this.
