I'm back; turns out I really need you guys

(Trish) #1

Hi all. So quick update…as some of you may know, I started keto 12/01/2017 and by July 2018 had gone from 212 to 147 pounds and was feeling awesome. Life, or rather death, happened and I fell off the wagon super hard. I bounced like a skipping rock on water. Recall that I was working in a donut shop at the time. Mom had a hemorrhagic stroke in July due to brain mets from malignant melanoma, but as otherwise healthy and young she lingered for many months. In going from work to the hospital daily I started on the horrible path of eating the donuts at work and hitting the drive-thrus on the way home to bed at night. (I understand it was my choice to do this and I have to take ownership of my bad decisions.) Sadly I gained 35 pounds. I made many attempts to get back to the keto way of life only to fail a day or two in, but I’ve committed now (on day 4) and feel that I can find my way back to better health being active again on this wonderful forum. I think having the support and camaraderie of the group really does make all the difference. In any case, “Hi, I’m Trish (aka Shallimar) and I’m a recovering carb addict.” It’s nice to see some old faces/names still on the forum and I look forward to ‘meeting’ some of the newer folks. :sunny:

Welcome back! I look forward to getting to know you better.

I’m sorry to hear about your mom. I’m glad you decided to get back on the Keto path and I wish you continued success. Welcome back!

Hello and good luck! Life happens. You’re owning your choices and starting over. Keep looking forward. Onward and upward, right?

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. Losing a parent sucks.

I am glad that you’re back here and back on the wagon. AND you haven’t gained it all back. That’s awesome. Here’s to new beginnings!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #7

Welcome back, Trish! Don’t beat yourself up too badly—just badly enough to get yourself back on the horse, lol! These things happen, and if eating carbage helped you get through the situation without doing worse to yourself, that works for me.

In any case, just take things a day at a time. Remember—you can eat all the crap you want; just don’t eat it today. You can binge all you want, tomorrow—just not right now.

Welcome back Trish! I’m so a carbaholic myself… recovering at least. I had a bit of a rebound too. I had lost around 40 lbs, then it just stopped, and started to come back even though I stayed keto. Too many calories i believe. Keto food is so dang good and my leptin/ghrelin is out of whack.

I’m so sorry about your mom. It’s so hard. And I understand the lure of donuts (people bring them into work several times a week) and fast food. Stress is our #1 enemy I think. I’d probably be eating egg and bacon McMuffins every day if they didn’t make me feel so sick.

You came back, and that is the important thing. Fall off the wagon, fine. Just be sure to come back.

Hello Shallimar, welcome back, and nice to meet you
I’m really sorry to hear about your mother :frowning:

Anyway, I’m kind of an OCD extremist whacko, but also, a very friendly, caring guy, I promise  Recently I got myself into trouble on a FB Keto forum, where, in a nut shell, I said, “Quit making excuses and looking for reasons to cheat on your Keto diet”… and that didn’t turn out very well  lol

So I just want to say this, if anything could derail me, it would likely be something very serious with my Mom (the only woman who has never kicked me to the curb, no matter how stupid my mistakes  or my GF, who I don’t even want to think about not being with… because their is not another one like her on this planet !

Anyway, you have already done this, so you know you can do it again  Best wishes

Thank you all so much for the support and thanks for welcoming me back into the fold.

Hi Trish, and welcome back!

I am so sorry to hear about all the hardships that you had with your mom’s cancer, and how difficult that is. The emotional impact of these circumstances often takes its toll, but we are glad to see that you are back on track.

This forum is awesome, as you already know, and for sure we will all be here to encourage you to stay on the wagon towards good health once again =).

Oh, God bless! Sending a huge hug your way! After what you’ve been through, it is understandable that you needed to self-medicate. Please give yourself a big hug, too, and know that you are going to be okay. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I stay motivated and on track by listening to podcasts on my way to and from work every day.

2 Keto Dudes
Carnivore Cast
Diet Doctor Podcast
Human Performance Outliers Podcast
Peak Human
Biohackers Lab
Break Nutrition
The Fat Emperor
Fundamental Health
Low Carb MD

And, as of today, I added The Fat Guy Forum to my podcast list.

I don’t like the default podcast app on the iPhone, so I use Overcast.

Trish, I’m sorry about what you went through. The good thing about trying again is that you have experience under your belt. You know how to do this! Wishing you the best in your new journey.

(Jane Suzanne Stewart) #15

Good for you for starting again! I can completely relate with my own slide into carb-land where I too regained some of my hard earned loss. I’m back on track again and truly do love feeling better–both physically and emotionally. It’s good to know you’re taking this journey, too!

(Tammy Arrowood ) #16

So sorry for the news of your mom hun. As a Stroke Nurse and everything else Nurse it’s definitely a very stressful event to go through. You will and have already committed and asked for support that’s the MOST AWESOME accomplishment. You GOT this. If I can help in ANYWAY, please don’t hesitate. We have such an AMAZING group of folks here.
Much sincerity and love.
Tammy SC Nurse❤️

See, this is why I love this place…everyone is so awesome, helpful, and supportive. It really is so much easier to just say no to pastries when it’s all of us against that lowly no-nutrition pastry.

(Elizabeth ) #18

Hi Trish! Welcome back! I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through such a hard time. So glad that you are back on track and reclaiming your health!

(Teri Raia) #19

Welcome back, I have a similar story as my Mom passed away in October and I have not been able to get back on the Keto train. I lost about 35 pounds and have another 30 to go. Today I am on my way to Aldi to pick up some Keto food and try again. I did not gain the weight back but just feel depressed and zero energy. So much different then when I was in Ketosis and felt so positive with tons of energy. For me at this point it is more the mental changes than the physical. Thirty pounds is not that much but what I am really missing is the feeling of well-being the diet provided. Much better than anti-depressents. Wishing u and I the best!

(Susan) #20

Welcome back to you as well, Teri. I am sorry about your mom, these things are always hard. Best wishes getting back on track as well, and feeling better and healthier soon =).

(Parker the crazy crone lady) #21

Welcome back. I’m sorry for the loss of your mother. That’s rough.
You can get back on keto. You successfully did it before, and know it works. Stick around for as much support as you need.
