If you were to go off Keto would you experience any headaches or pain?

I just did Keto for two weeks and then decided it wasn’t right me (I wasn’t much of a meat eater and I’m dairy free which makes this hard). I never at any processed sugar and I’m gluten free so I think I got into Keto rather quickly. Anyway, I wanted to know if someone has gone off Keto and experienced any shoulder or neck pain in addition to headaches? I at lentils for dinner and an apple. I woke up the next day feeling like I was sick with a terrible headache, neck pains and the chills. I had no idea this would happen, otherwise I may never have started Keto as I knew it wasn’t a forever thing for me. I know you are all into Keto but have you ever stopped for a period and experienced this? Also, does this pain go away after a few days of leaving Keto? I feel like him stuck to eating Keto only foods and weirdly (hopefully illogically) afraid that I can’t get back to eating the old foods I loved (fruit, variety of veggies and tofu). Thanks so much

You did keto for a whole two weeks???

Yes, Keto is a diet that treats inflammation and as soon as I go back to eating carbs the inflammation starts- muscle soreness particularly in my lower back and right knee, migrains and general low mood.
I’m glad you tried Keto as it is always worth the experiment, although 2 weeks isn’t usually considered enough time to tell if it works for you I can understand the frustraition if the food you ate didn’t agree with you. Have you concidered vegan/vegetarian keto (or some modification of this)? you are not alone in prefering not to eat animal products but it seems there are quite a few who have managed to meet both requirements. I believe you can search for Vegan Keto or Vegetarian Keto in the search bar. Either way good luck in finding the best way of eating for your lifestyle and health.

It’s not my business but may I ask why that is funny? A lot of people, most people who follow keto infact start out in all sorts of ways, Keto is a massive change from the usual diet for most people and some people find the jump difficult… I personally went from Low Carb to LCHF to Keto “on and off” to Keto “never going back” over an 8 month period. I think patience and personal choice are probably good starting points for us all.

Because keto is NOT a diet. It is a lifestyle. And 2 weeks isn’t a blip for someone my age. Sorry if I am unsympathetic for someone my age who wants instant gratification in 2 weeks to undo YEARS of bad choices.

Certainly you’re decision, but at 2 weeks, you were almost certainly not fat adapted yet, and therefore never got to experience the majority of the benefits of Keto.

Seems that even in two weeks you brought your inflammation down to a point where it’s noticeable when you provoked it again, really not surprising if you understand the science on why this works. It’ll pass but it should be something to think about, the food you’re eating is pissing your system off. Good foods that are actually healthy for us don’t give us headaches and chills! Just like a functioning alcoholic or somebody with a prescription pilll problem your body will re-adapt to constantly being that way and you’ll unfortunately feel fine again but that IS what’s happening! Our bodies don’t have to “get used” to things that are good for us!

I’d consider the reasons you tried keto in the first place and deciding if those goals are still something you’d want. Not being a huge meat eater doesn’t change anything as there is no shortage of vegetarian and vegan keto’rs, being dairy free makes it easier for many.

Occasionally I fall off the wagon, but never suffer for it with headaches or pain. The fat adaption helps with this. Consider, for an n=1, going keto full time.

Prior to Keto I had been taking pain medicine daily for joint pain and had headaches pretty much every day. Over the holidays, when I’d been Keto for only two months, I ate pretty much my old, usual junk for a week. BIG mistake. Within days I hurt all over…and I believe it felt worse because I had gotten used to NOT being in pain all the time.
