If the rule is "eat fat to satiety," then why do people drink BPC

(Stickin' with mammoth) #21

It was the taste of butter in my coffee, I’m just not a fan of that combo. The 40% HWC I currently use is the upper limit of milk fat I’ll tolerate before it starts edging into BPC territory. Ick. (Besides, I believe the whole process of frothing up the butter in BPC is a dodge to make it seem more like HWC.)

Yeah, I guess that’s where we come full circle on this, @OldDoug. It seems that BPC (like anything) may have its place for certain people, at certain times, for certain reasons, which I completely understand. I think what prompted my question was my anxiety/confusion over seeing those with a good amount of pounds to lose routinely drinking 300-400 calories of fat at 8:00am every day, and sometimes when not hungry.

I see why you said that (because I said I don’t believe in CICO, but believe that long term energy deficits are necessary to lose weight). I didn’t mean it to be contradictory, but I know that’s how it sounded!

I hear you, @Aqua_chonk. For the handful of BPC’s I’ve had, the ones with coconut oil and cinnamon have been the most enjoyable, whereas butter was MEH. (I love coconuts and coffee, separately, so I knew it’s be a winner for me.)

I’ll have to experiment with that. Maybe I’ll try adding a tiny bit of coconut oil to my usual HWC coffee recipe and go from there.

As for coconut, there’s a reason I sometimes ponder moving to Hawaii. I even use coconut soap.

#25

Yeah, all things being equal (if you’re going to use a fat), give a tablespoon of coconut oil a try (w/ stick blender).

That soap looks great. No need to go to Hawaii just for that, though! Does it suds up or is it more like traditional castiles and doesn’t suds up much?

It is something to think about, Brian. I habitually eat more than enough protein, and I’d be better served by substituting fat for some of it, so if I could order one size smaller steak and slurp down the HWC, I’d figure it a good trade.

(Stickin' with mammoth) #27

You know, now that I think about it, my coconut oil fat bombs are the same thing. I can just eat one with my coffee and save the cost of a stick blender!

This soap is fantastic. I’m not a fan of perfumes and its natural scent is subtle and fresh, not coconut-y at all. You won’t smell like a tourist on a Florida beach. It sudses up SO much, in fact, that I had to get used to using a lot less than regular soap, so it’s economical, too. I buy it by the case from Amazon every other year.

I still want to go to Hawaii.

This is good to know. I still have some Dr. Bronner’s to get through, and am going to give this Kirk’s a try. Looks like good stuff and I, too, love coconut.

And, I, too, also want to go to Hawaii.

#29

That’s an interesting way to look at it, especially if you’re looking out for protein levels. However, you used a phrase I’m not familiar with:

No idea what you mean…“smaller” steak? Who would ever do that? That’s like saying “less bacon”

(Stickin' with mammoth) #30

Kirk’s is cheaper per ounce and–Bonus!–you don’t have to wade through scripture in the shower.

#31

Pretty sure it ain’t scripture in the, er, bibical sense, but I hear ya!

(Adam Kirby) #32

I agree with you, unless you’re using BPC in lieu of a meal or simply don’t care about excess cals I don’t see much point to it. Or using it for the alleged brain effects but I dunno about that either.

(Jim Russell) #33

Any trade that results in less steak is not a good trade.

It is definitely true for me what some have said above about BPC allowing me to get through my day. I started the BPC in the mornings because I read about it in my early learnings of Keto and thought I needed to add the fat. I realized pretty quickly that with BPC for breakfast I just wasn’t hungry. That was great and made this new “diet” just so easy. Then I realized it had morphed into my not really eating anything at all. The BPC was so satiating I didn’t need anything else during the day. Then I started thinking about nutrients and realized I wasn’t getting any. I had to stop the BPC in order to actually get some real food in me. I have once or twice since then, used a BPC in the a.m. if for some reason I will not be able to eat that day and need guaranteed energy rather than to fast. It’s definitely a helpful tool but for me it just got to where it couldn’t be the norm.
