If carbs percentage is really low for the day, where should the extra percentage go?

For example, if my carbs are 3% would it be better if my protein percentage higher or my fats? I ask because my carbs have been quite low these past few days and I was curious what would be better.

Thank you

Carbs should count as grams, not percentage. Beyond that, the answer is MORE FAT

Fat to satiety, not beyond.

The percentages of fat/carbs/protein are guidelines, not strict rules. A more precise approach is to track carb intake in grams. Guideline I follow is to attempt to limit total carbs to 20g or less per day. (Some can tolerate more, but I find 20g total carbs to work for me.)

The body can turn excess protein into glucose (which in turn will increase insulin levels). Best to keep protein at a moderate level, and fat to the higher level. So, when in doubt, skew your diet with more fat (not protein).

You don’t have to fill the gaps in most cases, your carbs being lower than your max isn’t a problem. If you’re hungry though, you can back fill with either protein or fat, but obviously make sure you’re getting enough fat as it’s your main energy source.

I track macros in grams and their combined total in calories. 20g or less in carb, According to a keto calc I need 80g protein. I fill the rest with fat, but only to satiety - that’s about an average of 90g fat for me. I eat 1300 cal (which is still at a caloric deficit), so that the rest of the fat that I need will come from my body fat stores.

I track everything that I eat on MFP to make sure I’m sticking to the carb and protein I need. I’ve been doing this for 10 weeks and have lost an average of 2 lbs per week. I have 10lbs to go and then will up my fat intake for maintenance.

The point of keeping carbohydrate low is to avoid stimulating insulin secretion. Protein stimulates insulin somewhat, so keep the amount reasonable. Fat stimulates insulin much less than the other two do, so if you are hungry, that’s the thing to eat.

Be aware that the minimum daily requirement for carbohydrate is 0 grams. In other words, if you don’t get any, you won’t even get sick, much less die.
