So i started keto yesterday. When should i start fasting or should i let my body naturally do it.
If and starting keto
I’m not an expert by any means. I would get used to tracking your macros and get yourself through any keto flu first. You need to adapt a little. You may feel weird as you start to shift from sugar burner to fat burner.
Then you can look to eliminate a meal like breakfast once and a while and see how it goes.
Tell us a little about your circumstances. Some people need to fast to start to burn fat because their insulin production is deranged. Others not so much.
When we started keto, my wife and I went on a 2 week fast (just bone broth). After people started asking what I was doing to lose the weight, I’d tell them, “I stopped eating.”
I realized that was the wrong approach, because nobody was interested after that.
I’m not sure I have any advice, but I can tell you what I do for myself. I generally eat one meal a day, but I’ve been experimenting with supper, lunch and breakfast to see which time agrees with me more. I still haven’t decided. I love doing them all for different reasons, but I’m still generally satisfied with one meal.
I do make sure to eat plenty, so I won’t be hungry later. Sometimes I think I’ve over done it, but it usually works out. Also, if I’ve already had my meal for the day, and I’m not feeling quite right, I don’t beat myself up for going ahead and eating something else. Whatever or whenever I eat now is WAY better for me than the way I used to eat.
Also, I think something that is generally overlooked when people are talking about hunger and fasting; a lot of times when I’m fasting and start to feel like I’m getting hungry, it’s usually I hydration issue, and if I just drink some water then the hunger goes away.
Not sure if this answers any of your questions, but It might helpful if you check out the Diet Doctor’s guide to intermittent fasting.

Pay attention to you body and how it feels. If you’re eating the right foods, then it will let you know when you should eat. At least that’s my opinion.

Most importantly, don’t give up. Everyday is a new day.
A little bit about myself hmmm. I am 33 years old and just had my second and last child Dec 29th 2017. About a year before that I started looking at myself and what I was doing with my health and decided to change. I first stopped smoking after 15 years. I am in year 2 of no smoking and I feel like I am using food as a new crutch. I am looking for a way that I can feel better, look better, be clearer mentally and have a lifestyle that I can have fit my life and needs. I am looking for keto to be something that I do the rest of my life and just want to start it right so I don’t fall off.
If I were you I would stick with solid keto for a while.
Keto helps keep insulin low through lack of carbs.
IF helps keep insulin low through restricting when you eat.
So, IF is sort of an escalation on base keto.
I would do keto for a while - see what benefits accrue and then escalate to IF if necessary.
The reason? As you wrote “start it right so I don’t fall off” - exactly. Really understand and nail keto - then make things harder with IF only if necessary.
It might be best to wait until you are fat-adapted first, which takes six to eight weeks, usually. If you find yourself easily skipping meals or forgetting whether you ate or not, then you are definitely ready!
