I'd like to introduce myself

(David) #1

I’m David. I’ve lost 110# so far since October. I was at 335 now at 225. My diabetes is gone, I’m off all meds, and I can put my shoes on without help from my kids.

I decided last October that it was time to make a change so I started learning about heath and nutrition. My goal is to be healthy, and weight loss is an added bonus. I am also getting in some exersice…taking it slow. I go on long walks with the dogs and some fitness classes at the local gym. I’m committed to making this a lifestyle, not a diet. I’ve done some yo yo-ing in the past as I’ve lost weight but not kept it off and over the years I kept getting fatter and fatter.

I was really unhealthy. My job is behind a desk and I got no exercise and just ate and ate all the wrong foods. It was too the point that I would get winded walking to the mail box, and that was down hill, so gravity assisted. Coming back up I would pray that a heart attack didn’t happen. I didn’t get the mail too often lol.

So now I’m just trying to undue all the damage I did to my body over the years. I’m 52. I’m here to learn and to hear other’s stories as they take the same journey of healthy eating and living as I have.

David

Impressive. I’m tagging @Chris_Kreifels who is struggling and is around your size.

Welcome :yellow_heart:

Me too and I’d choose being dropped into a snake pit over exercise; only exercise I get is dog walking also and still lost 60+lbs :grinning:

Welcome David! Did you do just Keto or mix in some Fasting? Carnivore? What is your latest A1c test? Congrats on making it work for you!

(David) #17

I originally did straight keto. Then over the last couple months I’ve done intermittent fasting as well, usually 2 meals on a 6 hour eating window so 18/6.

My A1C is 5.4 as of February (4 months after starting keto) down from 6.5. I did another routine blood test a few days ago but I won’t get the results for awhile. I do know that my fasted glucose is about 81 when I test myself with a home testing kit. It used to be around 120-130.

I’m thinking in the next couple week to possibly do a 3 or 4 day fast depending on how I feel. I would do day 1 as a dry fast then do water fast after that with salt and supplements. I did one 3 day fast a few months ago. I felt fine but didnt want to push it since it was my first multi day fast. My goal is to get some hormesis going on. I have no doubt that my body needs a lot of repair.

I also try and hit the sauna 1x or 2x a week (just for 15-20 minutes) and I now take cold showers. I’m trying to get heat and cold shock protien production up for the health benefits.

I found a local farm and bought a 1/4 cow and 1/2 pig which are in the freezer so my meat is all grass fed grass finished. I also eat organic when I can. Probably 1/2 of my veggies are organic. And I get eggs from a local farmer.

I also try and eat fermented foods once a week or more. And I take a few supplements although I’m probably not lacking anything with the diet I eat. The supplements are just to cover all bases (hopefully).

Sounds like you are mixing things up well and getting results alright. When was your greatest weight loss period? Have you stalled in weight loss? Thank you for sharing.

(David) #19

I lost the fastest from 335 down to 300. 300 to 265 was a little slower. 265 to 235 was at the rate of about 2 pounds a week. 235 to 225 has been rather slow, about a pound a week, some weeks no change, then drop 3 or 4 in a week.

I’ve had a few plateaus, but nothing longer than a couple weeks. I’ve been trying to make sure I’m eating enough calories so that my weight loss isn’t too sudden. I’ve been doing the intermittent fasting but at least 1x per week I’ll eat 3 huge meals. I have sludge in my gall bladder and gall stones are a problem when you drop weight too quickly.

Weight loss is a great reward, you can see the accomplishment. But my main focus is on health. I feel VERY healthy.

Awhile back, I went to the gym and with my membership I get a couple 1 on 1 sessions with a personal trainer. They probably hope you’ll buy more sessions. So we start off with a warm up. She puts me on a treadmill and has me walk fast. I’m walking at 4mph which is practically a slow jog pace. She sets the incline at 3%. And waits…and waits…I’m still feeling good, not out of breath. She sets the incline to 6% and waits then asks how I’m feeling…I say I can feel it but I’m fine. (I’m not breathing hard at all), after a few more minutes she has me check my pulse…it’s 120. She exclaims “just 120??” And shakes her head. I’ve been walking fast for months with the dogs lol. I’ve been trying to activate my mitochondria with heat and cold shock proteins, I’ve been eating as all natural whole foods as I can. Let me tall you…I feel healthy.

David, first off, congrats. Losing 100 lbs is an amazing achievement. When you think about it, that equates to a third of your body weight. My hats off to you. I dropped about 40 lbs (170-130 give or take) after moving to Florida and documented my journey on youtube at my channel keto beach. I would suggest looking into intermittent fasting, which I added to the keto and have had great results keeping the weight off. Best of luck to you in your journey!
