So last week, I had weighed myself at 228.2lbs. A few days after that (3 days ago) I did a really hard core treadmill workout… 80 minutes, for a 1000 calorie burn. Of course I knew Id have lost weight in that 80 minutes, but assumed it would be 95% water. Weighed myself when I got home, and just as expected, I weighed 225.6. The next morning, I decided to check my weight again, and before I stepped on the scale, I said to myself… “I know my weight is going to have rebounded, as I will certainly have rehydrated… so don’t get too bummed about it”… Jumped on the scale, and I was 224.6 ! What ??? How did that happen ?!
Oh, so while I’m on the subject, let me tell you a true, but almost unbelievable story, along these same lines.
5 years ago, at the height of my fitness, I did a hike one day, which was an 8 mile loop, with just shy of 2000ft of elevation gain. I typically carried a 35lb pack, with 3 liters of water, but on this day, it was 90 degrees leaving my house ! … about 103 degrees at the end of my hike. {but this is Cali, so the dry heat is not so bad ;)} So I also brought two one liter sports drinks, plus ate a BUNCH of watermelon on the way to my hike. I also carried a half gallon thermos of ice water in the car.
Long story short, that day, I consumed in liquids and watermelon, very close to 15 lbs ! (2 gallons) …and I never had to pee, and incredibly, I lost 13lbs on the scale !!! I could totally feel it too ! My veins were popping out all over the place. Did you even think it was possible for a 229 lb guy, to lose 28 lbs of water in one day ?
I think I put back on 11 or 12 lbs of that overnight… plus I probably jumped up to more than 5K calories for the next couple days. I used to eat so freaking much, and was still constantly starved.
I SOOO wish I could go back to that point in my fitness, then switch to Keto…
