I’ve lost 25.6 lbs in 4 weeks!

(Charles) #23

8 week update:

It seems I just stalled for about 3 weeks, for whatever reason. I just hovered around 185.

Good news, though: things are moving again!

I know I said I’d stay away from the scale, but had to check for the 8 week mark.
I’ve lost 9 pounds in 10 days (looks like I’ve lost 20).
I’m now at 176.

36 pounds in 8 weeks…I’ll take it!
I’ll post or link some pictures soon, if it’s allowed. I’ll have to read the rules, if I can find them.

(Susan) #24

It is definitely allowed, you just click that arrow up button that says upload, and then browse and can upload from your comp/phone, etc.

Congrats on the scales moving again, what did you do to lose 9 pounds in 10 days? That is amazing.

(Charles) #25

I didn’t do anything differently.
I’m still eating once per day and keeping that meal small to moderate and under 10g of carbs.

It takes a lot of willpower. I wake up very hungry everyday, but my coffee usually makes the hunger subside.

I’m almost at my goal, so I think it’s about time to up my carbs a bit and start working out.

(Charles) #26

Okay…
Here are my before pictures, taken on July 15th, 2019 at 6’1" and 212 pounds:

(Charles) #27

And today, at 8 weeks and 176 pounds:

Yes, I’m in terrible shape. That will be remedied by Jan. 1.
I figured I’d get the fat eradicated first.

(Ashley) #28

Congrats! Such a dramatic change! I bet you feel loads better!

(Susan) #29

Congrats, you are doing terrific! Keep up the good work =).

(Marianne) #30

I detest the scale and only get weighed when I am at my various doctors (probably every 3-4 mo.).

Please don’t stress about three pounds. Our weight can fluctuate wildly for various reasons. If you are aren’t deviating from keto, you aren’t doing anything wrong. As you saw, it will go down again. That is why I don’t like to weigh. Too upsetting when it’s up, and too upsetting when it’s down and doesn’t continue at the same rate or goes up slightly.

(Marianne) #32

You look fabulous and congratulations!

I would just caution you, however, to watch out for the hunger. You shouldn’t be hungry on keto, or have to exercise your willpower. You may consider adjusting to TMAD and making sure you are feeding your body enough appropriate protein and fat to allow it to restore itself. If you are eating OMAD (what I do), it should be hearty and satisfying enough to sustain you more than comfortably until your next meal.

You want to learn a WOE that is sustainable long term, obviously for weight loss but also for the other incredible health benefits - may of which are occurring on a metabolic level.

(Charles) #33

Thanks!

I wake up hungry because I only eat one meal per day (dinner at 7pm) and no snacks. That’s 24 hours between meals. No meal will stave off hunger for 24 hours.

(Marianne) #34

HI Charles, I beg to differ and other folks here can relate as well. Many people fast for 3-4 days with relatively no hunger. That is what eating well and fat adaptation will do.

I have been eating OMAD for several months now - absolutely no snacks and have only cheated once in 7 months since I started (wedding). I have no desire - or hunger - with sticking to OMAD. I just came in after working in the yard for over three hours doing heavy gardening. It was a bitch, but felt so good!!! I could never have done this before or anything remotely close to it. No hunger, just waiting until around 6:30 PM when we will eat.

I no longer crave or emotionally hunger either; haven’t in quite a long time. I OMAD most days, effortlessly now… and my morning workouts are always fasted.
Once every 1.5 months I do a 72 to 96 hour fast… and it always depends on listening to my body, on whether I should break it at 72 or 96.

(Charles) #36

I appreciate the advice and concern, but what I’m doing is working well for me and I’m going to stick to it.

I’m losing an average of 4-5 pounds per week, so a little hunger is ok with me.

Like I said in my first post, I’m not going nuts with the monitoring, macros or any of that other jargon you’re using. I just watch the carbs, sugar, eat once a day and listen to my body. I have tons of energy now and just go all day.

I’m basically at my goal weight now, so I’ve started weight lifting and will look forward to a healthier lifestyle.

I’m out! Thanks for the support and well wishes!
Catch ya on the flip side!

Oh yes; this is our favorite cut of meat - we prefer it to beef - and it’s cheap!!! Hope the grocery stores aren’t listening. Many times it will have much more fat on it. I cut that off and get a good crisp on it and we supplement that with the leaner bites.

Wow, good for you! I have done 72 - once, but not my favorite thing. Have to try it again. I can always break it if I get too anxious (it’s not about hunger, per se).

(Charles) #39

“I beg to differ”?
How condescending. Everyone is different.

My one meal per day consists of 1 cup of salad with vinaigrette and 2 oz of meat, by the way (this info is for people that come across this post because they’re considering cutting carbs and sugar).

I’m now at my goal of 165 (lost 11 pounds in the last 11 days).
All told, that’s 47 pounds in two months and five days. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is my last post. I hope my success helps future dieters.

A message to those future dieters: don’t listen to these fad dieters that will tell you that you have to do things a certain way or feel a certain way. They are full of crap and are the type that never reach their goals. Eat healthy, listen to your body and just do what feels right. Anyone who says “macros”, “TMAD” or any other trendy crap should be ignored.

Best of luck!

For anyone who comes across this thread, you may lose quickly if you are only eating:

1 cup of salad with vinaigrette
2 oz of meat

a day and nothing else, for two months. But this isn’t sustainable long term and once you begin eating “normally” chances are you’ll gain some of the weight back. This is considered a restrictive temporary diet.

Most folks doing a ketogenic diet plan to use it long term. They are people interested in: managing or reversing disease, weight loss, metabolic health, improved mental health/cognition, a better quality of life in general. Weight loss is a nice side effect of getting healthier but we don’t endorse weight loss at all costs around here. If this is considered “fad” and “full of crap” by one member, that’s okay. The people sticking around and sticking it out know it’s not.

(Susan) #41

I totally agree -I would go even further to call it a Starvation diet, with annorexic tendencies. I speak from experience; having been full on anorexic/bulemic for years and having an eating disorder that I still wrestle with. It is not sustainable and will set a person up for years of yo-yo dieting; again, ME! and what I have done from 11-Keto… so yes, not a healthy way to go at all!! Proper Keto is not only sustainable but it is remarkable and will make your body healthy and feel better then it has in years!

How you lost the weight is called Anorexic by most people -and definitely yo-yo dieting, and you will gain it all back and most likely more. You will see.

Just in case you decide not to peace out like that…

I don’t believe that is condescending at all. That’s someone saying they disagree with you and offering their opinion and different perspective.

You said that there is no meal that can stave off hunger for 24 hours. Perhaps you should have said there is no meal that can stave off YOUR hunger. Some people can feast one day and not be hungry for days on end.

And, as you said, everyone is different. So if you believe that, then you wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss other peoples’ experiences.

“Macros” is a shortened, abbreviated way of saying “macronutrients”. That’s not jargon or “trendy crap.” It’s a word used often in nutrition sciences. “TMAD” is an example of Initialism - a language device utilized to shorten oft-used phrases. (UFO and LOL are two other examples.) You wrote out “one meal per day” whereas OMAD, especially in the context of a forum for those following a ketogenic WOE (that’s “way of eating” BTW), is perfectly acceptable.

Best of luck to you and DLTDHYOTAOYWO.

You aren’t successful yet; you haven’t had a chance to sustainably keep it off.
Come back in the future and let us know how you are doing. Two months and five days isn’t long enough to prove any bit of sustainability.
