I think the MCT oil I took yesterday morning did a number on me!

I’ve picked up a cold from my sons. Not feeling so good, yesterday I decided to fast for the day. However, in the morning I had a teaspoon of MCT oil in my tea. It wasn’t the first time I’ve done this and I haven’t gotten sick in the past.

In a few hours I was running to the toilet. Pretty much, cleaned me out. Then, by around 5 I was feeling hungry. Very hungry, so I scrambled six eggs, cooked them in butter, and yum, they were good.

A few hours later, I couldn’t resist some beef chuck roast with lots of fat. Ate that too and was fine.

However, during the night I started to get cramps in my stomach. This morning I felt nauseous and still have cramps. I’ve been sipping water all day, but haven’t eaten anything yet as my intestines ache.

Anyway, I think I’m going to eat something soon, or try to to see it it “pushes” the ache away… I just want to feel better!

I doubt that if you’ve used MCT oil without problems in the past that one teaspoon would cause all the lasting issues from this episode. I have gotten loose from BPC when that was all I consumed for four days, it hit on the morning of the forth day. That was 3 tablespoons daily plus 3 of butter.

You say you weren’t feeling good before you took it. Maybe the large amount of fat and protein breaking the fast was too much in combination with the possible viral thing you might have already been exposed to. You’ll have to try both under healthy conditions to know for sure. I hope you’re feeling better now. :cowboy_hat_face:

It may be that my “cold” is more than a simple cold. But none of my boys had anything more than sneezing and runny nose.

I don’t take MCT oil every day, but just occasionally. A few times a week. But you may be right that it wasn’t the MCT. Perhaps it was too much salt? I was munching on salt all day.

Too little salt = constipation

Too much salt = diarrhea

Be careful with the salt grazing! Weigh out a couple grams for the day. :cowboy_hat_face:

Yes, I didn’t measure it but just grazed on it all day (himalayan pink salt). I bet this is what caused the problem. That, or I have a different strain of virus than my sons did.

I’m trying a little food now to see what that does to me. Hope I don’t start puking!

I find that my body’s response to a cold coming on is to forcibly “eject” as many viruses as possible. Maybe that’s what’s happening to you? For me, it’s a very reliable indicator that something is trying to catch me.

MCT oil might be the culprit. I took teaspoons and quit at that level, with something similar.

That’s useful to know. Might explain the low level C I sometimes get since I’m on diuretics.

Sounds like the classic stomach flu? MCT oil was just helping you evacuate it. MCT oil is very selective about going after bad viruses and bacteria and helps losen up empacted stool.

So I would not be so quick as to blame the MCT oil. It is trying to help you?

I’m still not entirely sure whether it was the MCT oil, salt, flu, or a combination of all of them! Thankfully, I feel better today. I did have periods of sweats followed by chills, so perhaps I had a fever as well.

I think I will be more careful about the MCT oil. I still want to lose weight, so I probably don’t need to add MCT. It’s just that I have it and I hate to have it go to waste!

Thanks for all the ideas! I was really feeling awful yesterday.

Some people here have good experiences with MCT oil. The only kind I can take without much issue is the stuff that’s only C8 or the powdered. I have thrown away multiple other types.

Good to know that different types affect people differently.

C8 is the one that the least amount of people have trouble with. Mine is about half and half C8 and C10 with a small trace of C6 and C12. I never got any gastric distress like some complain about.

I think I don’t have the “good” MCT oil. Ah, well…
