I miss crunchy things

#41

Just happened upon this “by coincidence” tonight. Apart from the usual references to studies based in SAD HFLC as the norm, it makes some interesting points.

And, being that there’s a new, serious industry in cricket snack bars and protein powders (and also with a mind to the coming global food crisis) this also may be part of an overall effort to normalize crickets, akin to how Quorn received much notoriety when it launched. The huge difference though is that crickets are Nature-made, low tech, wholesome crunchies

Seriously tho? Crunchies + amazing nutrition is a winning combo.

Yeah, don’t bet on those crickets being “all natural” by the time the big food conglomerates decide that they can make some $$$ on them. They will be creating the super cricket in a lab and then create millions in another lab/farm, feed them junk, and pass them on to us. Can just see Kraft foods w/ their “cricket Mac & cheese”. BLEAGHH!

Well stated - the moment big industry gets involved the quicker the corruption, and before you know it, crickets are cloned and fed sewage or something like that.

Supporting small family farms takes on new meaning now with the cricket question…

I tried this recipe tonight, https://www.mypcoskitchen.com/low-carb-gluten-free-garlic-croutons/

I baked them at a lower temperature for a longer time, to dry them out. They are not as dense as regular croutons (more crumbly) and they are eggy tasting. I only did half of the “bread” and let the other half out to dry before baking it. If I make them again, i think I will put a bunch of fresh herbs in the dough to help with the egginess. I dont know how spot on the recipe carb count is, If I put the ingredients in cronometer I get 5 grams total for the entire batch vs. 2.5 for 1/6th.

11&1/2 of them are only 1g

I made keto connects flax seed cracker recipe which I soaked last night and baked this morning. I got overzealous in rolling out the mix and they came out too thin. :joy: I think the flavor is fine. I’ll have to try them again to know if the recipe is a keeper or if I want to adjust the spices.

[Uploading…] I too missed my “crunchy” snack (I was a popcorn junky) but found these and now never miss my popcorn! I eat them alone or on salad or use them in some of my fat bombs.

The picture didn’t show but they are called “dang coconut chips”

I second the Whisps!! Also pork rinds are surprisingly good.

I want to try those for years… But I cannot find any where I live. I never manage to get to those food festivals where they’d serve them…

My dad said deep fried crickets taste like french fries only with more crunch… XD
I am definitely a daddy’s girl XD
