I miss crunchy things

#1

Specifically croutons. I am eating a lot more salads now, and god I miss croutons. No ‘crunchy’ vegetables have the same crunch as a crouton…

It seems like this is a trend among most of the keto foods (lack of crunch), or am I just missing something?

Any recommendations?

Three are a life saver for me. Use as Croutons or a scoop!

Pork rinds.

Parmesan crisps or cheddar crisps!

Fox Hill Kitchens has “Awesome Croutonz”. They are quite tasty and have that satisfying crunch!

Coupon codes can be found by doing a google search.

I love flaxseed crackers–you can buy flackers (which are expensive), or easily make your own for cheap!

I also like toasted pepitos (pumpkin seeds)–they puff up and get super crunchy when you toast them, especially if you use the little ones, like Bob’s Red Mill, as opposed to the bigger ones. I toss them with a little avocado oil or melted coconut oil and seasonings of choice, then put them in the oven at 350 until they’re puffed up and golden (you can even hear them “popping” in the oven as they puff). As with all nuts and seeds, just keep a close eye on them so they don’t burn. They make a very satisfying low-carb alternative to chips!

Now that’s something I could take home to mama!

Had to come back again for a second look! OMG

I like the idea of cheese crisps, but like those croutons that were linked, they are kinda expensive.

I tried making my own cheese crisps and they either came out kinda soft if I didn’t cook them long enough, or burnt/stuck to the parchment paper if I left em in too long. Any tips?

Toasted pecans

Where are you based … if in the UK then I found these in Waitrose for 97p

brown one is 0 carbs and the pizza one is 3g carb per 100g

I’m in the US. The walmart near my house sells those cheese crisps mentioned above. Still a lot more expensive than just making my own though…

Does anyone have a successful recipe/strategy for making cheese crisps? I was thinking maybe I need to get a silicone baking pan so I can cook them longer but not have them stick?

HELLO YOU CAN ADD CRUNCHY BACON TO YOUR SALADS. IF YOU SLOW COOK IT BACON GETS CRUNCHIER.

Go grab some chicharrones! Best snack, has the most crunch and believe it or not they are pretty dam filling!

I discovered this by accident - grated mozzarella. Grab a handful and chuck it into a hot frying pan, spread it out so it’s like an omelette, not too thick. No oil. It will melt and then start to brown underneath. When it’s brown enough get a spatula or similar under there and flip the whole thing over - it can be tricky, too early and it’s a floppy mess, too late and it burns. Brown off the other side, keep flipping it until you’re happy with both sides. Take it out of the pan and let it cool a bit. Slice it up into strips with a knife / pizza cutter. Let it cool until it gets crispy. Eat (it’s great with a guacamole dip)

Thanks ill try frying the cheese in a pan instead of baking in the oven.

And a lot of people are recommending pork rhins… never been a huge fan… anything else kinda similar?

Put piles of grated cheddar cheese on a cookie sheet, leave room for spreading as it melts. Put in the oven and let it melt and get light brown. It gets crunchy and tastes a lot like cheese its.

#19

But how to get it to not stick to the cookie sheet?

I use parchment paper when I melt cheese in the oven.
