Hi Terri,
Some of the calculators can be a bit odd.

Everyone should be under 20g carbs regardless of height and weight to guarantee ketosis. At you height and weight aim for about 70g protein to start with, and the fat to satiety. There is no goal or target other than to eat enough so that you are full and not snacking between meals.

Enjoy!

Is it maybe the "net " carbs part that is confusing? Or was it just the percentages in general?
I learned keto as carbs 5% of calories, using (obviously) all veggies and “good”, keto-friendly carbs, so “gross” carbs could be higher, but net would be close to 20-30. And Phinney’s Well Formulated Keto chart shows carbs higher than 20 gms. I always wondered where this came from, or if it depends on individuals.
Hope I haven’t confused anyone!

Since everyone is different, people’s carb tolerance varies quite a bit. I gather it depends a lot on how insulin-resistant we are. On these forums, the recommendation is 20 g/day, because it gets everyone but possibly the most seriously insulin-resistant into ketosis, but your personal limit might be lower—or higher. But still, 20 g/day is a good level to start at, and you can adjust later, if necessary or desirable.

Take me, for example: I suspect I have a fairly high carb tolerance, but because I am a sugar/carb addict, I keep my carb intake as low as possible, just out of fear of going on a binge. So for me, staying below 20 g/day might not be necessary, but it sure is desirable! I can cope with a small amount of broccoli, cauliflower, or salad without going overboard, but 20 g/day is low enough to keep me from bingeing on glazed doughnuts (one is too many and a thousand aren’t enough).

I can totally understand that concept!
