I love keto except I’m tired during the day and WIRED at night. HELP

Long post sorry!
Hi guys I’ve been lurking here for a while.
I tried keto at the start of March for about a week. I loved it however all this virus stuff started and I got too stressed because I suddenly became a teacher for my 2 school aged kids while keeping house and looking after a 2 year old as well. So that went down the toilet. I gained the 2 kilos I lost back and an extra 2 kilos cause you know I ate all the pasta wine and chocolate over Easter :woman_facepalming:t2::sweat_smile:

However I started again yesterday.
I eat well. Lots of fat lots of salt and keep my net carbs between 15-10 or less grams and moderate protein. I’m hardly hungry and I know it works however I’m quite tired during the day but once bed time comes I’m completely WIRED like jittery wide awake I try and sleep but I keep startling and tossing and turning. I keep clenching my teeth as well. Lack of sleep gives me huge headaches. I am very active during the day always running around after the kids & CLEANING constantly. Plus I go for 30-1 hour walks every so often.

I use the urine strips and by bed time last night my strip showed me I’m definitely in Ketosis. Dark pink/purpley colour. Dry mouth is also the tell tale sign for me. I read it can take days to reach Ketosis so could this be the issue? Am I reaching it too soon? Less than 24 hours is that bad? Or dangerous?
I have 3 kids so I need my sleep I get extremely anxious if I can’t sleep so that further exaggerates it.

I ended up taking a magnesium supplement and having a piece of toast to try and sleep I thought bugger it I just can’t do this. I got 2 hours sleep all night. :disappointed:
I woke up really wanting to keep going but I can’t handle this happening every night. I’ve had success in the past losing weight by eating moderate carbs. (Around 50-100 total carbs) I feel like giving up and going back to that.

I’m a female162cm tall I weigh 72 kilos as of yesterday morning.
Here’s what I usually eat.

Breakfast- keto granola with heavy cream or bacon & eggs with lots of butter & avocado & some baby spinach.
Bulletproof coffee (MCT coconut oil butter & cream)

Lunch- big salad with tinned tuna & fatty dressing or steak & broccoli smothered in a creamy cheese sauce

Dinner- Bodi shake with a tbsp 100% peanut butter with almond milk (It’s full of good fats fibre and very little carbs) or a creamy keto soup with zucchini pasta.

I do snack sometimes so that will be pickles wrapped in full fat cheese, sliced roast beef with cheese or keto chips with smashed avocado. 70% dark chocolate. Or sugar free keto brownies (tons of fibre) Coffee with MCT creamer. Green tea.
I cook all my eggs, meat and veg in butter & olive oil. I drink around 2-3 litres of water which I’ve always done.
I Crush up some pink Himalayan Salt and stick that under my tongue a few times a day. And salt my food generously. Also drink a cup of chicken broth once a day or drink pickle juice.
If I use or eat anything with sweetener it’s the right sweeteners I did my research on that for a while.
(Stevia, monk fruit ect)
I try and stick to 1600 calories doing this and I don’t feel very hungry doing this. My macros are on point as well. Should I not worry about counting calories? I feel like I am eating to satiety but maybe I’m not

Sorry for such a long post however I want to cover everything I can.

Hi @Absinthe2411 sorry to hear you are having some issues with your body clock.

What made you select Absinthe as a name for this forum? Is it coincidence or do you actually aspire to the bohemian lifestyle favoured by the artistic set in Paris in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. I believe they stayed up much of the night and slept much of the day too.

Setting that aside, in your shoes I would try to go back to basics.

I have found that taking a fairly hight dose of vitamin D accompanied by chelated magnesium and vitamin K2 about 8 hours before my intended bedtime helps me to get to sleep and stay that way. I would avoid stimulants such as chocolate. (I would never eat 70% chocolate - far too high in sugar - Have 85% as a very occasional treat but only rarely)

I find that what has worked for me is basing my meals on meat, fish, bone broth, eggs, some cheese and double cream (aka heavy cream but not the sort that contains anything other than cream*) and some leafy greens. I avoid processed foods, sweeteners and anything that comes in a packet. Real food generally has no label.

As part of your kids education you can get them to help with cooking their meals which should set them up for life.

At the height and weight you have given you surely only have a few kilos to lose but eating well should improve your health and well being.

Focus on real food and avoid your screens for the hour or two before bed.

  • I visited family in Canada last summer and was appalled at all the other ingredients which were in the cream and yogourt on the chiller shelves at the supermarket.
