I just must be thick

I tell ya the more i read to try and understand the less i seem to understand. I mean i get the global concepts but i just can seem to grasp details. I have read gary taub, jimmy moore, jason fung, etc and they all make sense on the high levels but when i try and drill down into the details to really understand say nmr results, insulin resistance, calcium score etc I just cloud over.
It is bad enough i argue to get say an nmr done and then have a hard time discussing results because i just can seem to digest the details and the doctors do not seem to be able to read either.
They only look for that magical H on your lab results and then obsess with " well these are high and we have meds for ya"
Now I am excited for ivor and dr jeff book to come but afraid i wont be able to digest this either… UGH

There was a reason I hated school… LOL
Its like i want to try and take charge of my health and be “undoctored” but I just cant seem to get it and all help costs more money and more money…really wish for all the insurance money we pay and etc that even if they dont agree with us we could get an advocate to “work” with us…

I guess my only recourse is to just stop going to docs and wait for a “break” since they only know how to repair us and not prevent us from needing repairs. Or I guess i just try and save up some cash and start to pay out of pocket but then again who when i get to the point of being able to pay…

Have blood work being done again for annual physical in couple weeks and even thougfh I have argued several times and finally got nmr done a year ago he again didnt list it this time, and he also knows when e sees me that I am not going on a statin and want to fix with nutrition while possible but since he or any other doc i have spoken to dont understand nutrition or keto they jus dismiss and say well you cant outrun genetics or those solutions arent able to be maintained longterm, again bacause you cant make any money off them ???

RANT over …

This.

I replaced a doctor fixing me with the Keto diet. I am seeing him now 2 times a year for a general appointment and blood work.

That’s the plan anyway… I’m not good at over orchestrating and am keeping it simple, as I’ve learned in the past how to fail!

Good luck.

Maybe take a look at the simple guide to cholesterol over at cholesterolcode.com?

(I’m looking forward to the part III!)

Peter Attia also has a nice set of articles on the topic:

@Bbqscotty
I’ve stopped going to doctors for anything other than acute health issues. The last time I went in (ear issue) I said something to the nurse about not sleeping. Suddenly I have insomnia and need to go on antidepressants?!? WTF? I didn’t fill the Rx. I have tried to get help with chronic issues over the years, but was unable to get help. Going to an appointment or looking for a new dr would give anxiety - like actual panic attacks. So I’ve turned into the patient doctors don’t like. I do my own research, and I’m trying, like so many others on this forum, to heal themselves. I refuse to silence myself and obediently take their meds. I want to know the underlying cause and how to fix that - addressing symptoms doesn’t do that. So I’ll never have hard evidence Keto has healed anything - oh well. Sorry for the rant. Apparently there is some hostility! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I feel the pain

It’s well placed frustration… We expect doctors to know this stuff, but they just don’t, and have no interest.
Lawyers/accountants/teachers/…hell, even car mechanics all need to evolve with new changes. What’s wrong with Doctor’s?
I think they need to have their heads removed from their a$$es…

I had one doctor 5 years ago try to put me on a statin(Lipidor) even though I’m healthy as a horse and all my blood work was perfect! He said it was a preventative measure(I never went back to see him again).

I am convinced that some docs will just attribute unknown phenomena to “genetics” because they don’t know what they are talking about. Well you just lost the genetics lottery, too bad, nothing to be done.

It’s lazy and irresponsible.

Worse part is trying to find one that you can work with

@stacy You’re right - we’ve gotten so quick to judge health issues as due to genetics, but if everyone’s genetics were this faulty wouldn’t we (humans) have died out long ago?

This thread prompted me to think about genetics. We have the genes but we can also impact their genetic expression - epigenetics.

“Our team is dedicated to studying how nutrition can determine the way in which our “genetic predispositions” are expressed and can be altered through the choices we make”
https://www.epigenixfoundation.org/

I came across a podcast that I will listen to soon:
