I have a workout question

(Karla Sykes) #1

So my family and friends have been telling me that I’m working out at the wrong time usually Monday through Friday I work out anywhere from 8 to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday I will sometimes work out at 9 through 11 p.m. I like working out at night because it’s the last thing that I have to do and honestly it makes me go to sleep really quickly. But I was told by family and friends the best time to workout for the most health benefits is in the morning which if I have to work out in the morning I probably will not I don’t know. I guess it’s Mind Over Matter.

On a positive note I have already walked / run on the elliptical trainer 11 miles this week thanks to Love is Blind TV show

The ‘best’ time for you is when you will do it. Consistently. I think you have found that time. It works for you.

The best time is whenever it’s easiest for you to fit it in with your personal schedule so do what works for you.

And where did they get their degree in Exercise Science?

I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count all the expert advice from others with no background in this field.

Circadian Rhythm

Research has demonstrated that your body temperature is one of the major factors that determine when you are at your best physically, as well as mentally and emotionally,

You’re body temperature fluctuates minutely during a 24 hour period. Those small changes are large factors in how well you do.

When your body temper is elevate at its highest in the normal or slightly above normal range, you perform you best.

When your body temperature is at it lowest, you are less efficient.

Checking Your Body Temperature

You can check and plot your body temperature to determine you best times. But that is not necessary.

We each know which part of he day when are are at our best and time we want to take a nap.

With that said, it appears that you best time is later in the evenings.

While you friend/family mean well, they clearly lack knowledge in this area.

Keep doing what you doing!

All nonsense. Everybody is different. I’m like you, I can work out right before I go to bed and I sleep MUCH better when I do. Sadly, I do all my lifting in the early AM (usually around 5) then try a second visit after work at least 4x/wk to get some cardio in. I have better, harder sessions ALWAYS when my lifting is in the PM since my body is why more awake and I’ll all broken in. But PM workouts for me are unpredictable so If I gotta miss one, I don’t want it to be the weights. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
