I got my Cholesterol Test & Numbers Are All Over the Place but I May have Cheated

Numbers in Feb 2020:

Total Cholesterol - 213
Triglycerides - 62
Cholesterol HDL Ratio - 2.7
HDL Cholesterol - 79
Non HDL Cholesterol - 134
LDL (calculated) - 122
VLDL Calculated - 12

Numbers July 2020:

Total Cholesterol - 369
Triglycerides - 87
Cholesterol HDL Ratio - 4.2
HDL Cholesterol - 89
Non HDL Cholesterol - 280
LDL (calculated) - 263
VLDL Calculated - 17

It has me nervous that everything jumped. Here’s the deal - In December 2019 my numbers looked almost exactly like the ones I got yesterday, July 2020. My doctor said it had to be a mistake so he retested me and they decreased to those good numbers I have listed from Feb 2020. I tested again yesterday after telling my doc I wanted off a statin and my numbers are as bad as when he wanted me to retest because he said it couldn’t be right. So ate macadamia nuts hoping those numbers would look better for my retest in Feb 2020 and it worked. So, what do I conclude seeing numbers bounce dramatically like this after 13 months on strict Keto?

Your ratio of triglycerides to HDL is under 1.0 in both sets of results. Many people would kill to get such a good ratio. Your risk for cardiovascular disease is 0, and your LDL is all the healthy Pattern A (as your doctor would have known if he had ordered an NMR test). So why does he have you on a statin? This boggles the mind.

If you think you may be one of Dave Feldman’s lean-mass hyper-responders, there is a way to manipulate your lipid numbers on a test. See his site, www.cholesterolcode.com, for more information.

Paul, you always bring me a huge feeling of relief:-). I mentioned NMR to my doc when I told him my cholesterol would probably be high and he said he doesn’t know much about those tests. He will call me today and tell me not to go off a statin, which I already stopped taking as of yesterday. I am going to tell him I want to do an NMR. If I have small dense particles then we will discuss it. If I have large fluffy particles, let me keto on (which I’m going to do anyway).

And consider a coronary arterial calcification scan. About $100 in the US.
