I got kicked out of Ketosis...need help on why

(John) #1

Been going strong for 8 weeks. Lost 27 pounds. I plateaued this last week and have noticed my mmol level slowly declining this past week.

I was regularly between 2.2-2.8. This last week gradually declining and today at .8

I added a few sugar free Rock Stars early last week… quickly stopped thinking this was the reason.

No idea of why my mmol levels continue to drop. Still at 70% fat; 25% Protein and 5% carbs. Keeping total calories around 1,600 and weigh 205. Would like to lose another 10.

Anybody have a reason? Suggestion?

Since you’re still producing ketones, the next question might be how were you feeling before and after the drop? Do you still feel as good as before? If so, here is a link to an article regarding a few reasons why you might be producing lower ketone readings after being on a ketogenic way of eating for awhile.

I’ve found that when I up the amount of fat I’m eating by adding in an extra avocado or some macadamia nuts or olives, my blood ketone levels rise.

Personally, as long as I maintain the benefits of ketosis, I’m trying not to worry about my levels on a day to day basis. If I eat something that makes me feel off (tired or otherwise not so great) I measure to evaluate whether I’ve been kicked out of ketosis. It’s happened after a restaurant meal with hidden carbs before. Sigh…

I think it’s seems like you’re probably doing very well! Take a look at the article and see what you think.

I’ve read it before, great article.

I agree that your ketones will drop as you progress.
