I get to teach a class on nutrition!

I run a program to help adult women get training & careers in traditionally male fields that pay more without advanced degrees. Complicated, but basically I teach the career “soft skills” portion of the class.

Guess what’s included… NUTRITION!

I’m going to start on Wednesday and continue next Wednesday.

My plan so far: Wednesday morning I’m going to come in with a keto spread. I’m thinking oven fried chicken legs/thighs, cauliflower mash, and cheesecake. Possibly more, but those are the three dishes I make REALLY WELL.

We’re going to work on employer feedback on Wednesday morning, then in the afternoon we’ll be in a room with a/v so we’re going to watch the movie Sugar Coated on Netflix.

Then I’d like to do a powerpoint explaining the science behind keto, the real life success stories (likely taken from you all!), and the basics. I’m also going to give out a packet of papers with a quick start guide, foods, recipes, and FAQ.

I’d also like to give them 2 Keto Dudes podcasts on CDs if I can figure out how

Any more ideas for what I need to cover? Let me know!

This is such a great opportunity. I hope this helps even one person to better their life through better nutrition. Way to go!

I have one woman who has every horrible diabetes symptom, so I really really really want to get through to her.

That is so awesome. And how wonderful that you will be teaching it and not someone promoting SAD!
And if that lunch doesn’t peak their interest, nothing will.

Speaking of non-traditional female jobs, I got into that back in the ice age! Sad thing is, there are STILL (as of a few years ago at least!) men in construction that had never worked with/seen female electricians. Crazy. Sorry for digressing from your question.

Anyway, good luck with the class!

This is good news.

I’m a female engineer and work in a “man’s world” type industry all the time. In fact, I’m often the only female in the room, or on the job site, and if there is a female, it’s a secretary taking notes or getting the coffee, or something like that.

I’d like to offer advice on this matter. As, this is something I have firsthand experience in. Please set up the women with access to a mentor to grow their careers. Classes and access to theoretical info is great, but in the absence of a mentor, the failure to grow ones career is very high. Women in male-dominated roles put up with a lot of corrosive behaviour at work (off hand comments, denigration, less pay, marginalization, etc). It may be hidden or overt, and the women have to build up the courage to ignore it, not show emotion and believe they have the power within them to withstand it (and not believe the hidden message of “you are not good enough”).

Please, I don’t want to sound discouraging. But, sitting in a class, listening to “you can do it” rhetoric is not as helpful, as a veteran woman, working in a male-dominated industry, who can be accessed as a mentor.

Please find the women a mentor.

Ok, I’m going to step off of my soapbox now. I have said my piece.

Yep…I’m a Project Manager and Contract Administrator working for a large multi-national (predominantly engineering) consultancy, so well and truly relate. It’s a bloody tough road.

How to buy inexpensive cuts of meat, quick ways to prep veg, easy shopping tips, and a couple of basic cooking tips.

As a single mom for 13 years , I needed examples of other women batch cooking at home, and knowing age appropriate chores for the kids.

I needed to know I was going to save a lot of money for my kids college by not buying processed foods and staying well more often so I could use vacation for fun, not illness.

Recipes are a quick link away. Kitchen and shopping basics to combat " I don’t have time, I’ll drive thru & order from the dollar menu"
