I forgot to put mayo back in the fridge

#1

It has been sitting on the table overnight(after dinner I think)
Would you say It’s still okay to eat if it doesn’t smell or taste bad?

#2

Weird.

Sure let us know you get on…I for one won’t be able to sleep until this mystery is solved.

I know loads of people who never keep it, or any other sauces, in the fridge.
Wouldn’t worry, it separates when it goes bad so you’d see.

#4

If it’s a super clean good mayo, I’d probably toss it, if it’s a normal regular people trash mayo (you know, the awesome tasting one) I’m sure it’s perfectly fine. The advantage of the hyper processed stuff is it stays good though a lot. Really the only advantage.

#5

Even ones with only clean ingredients?

(Pete A) #6

Eat it and keep eating it if you like it!

(Peter - Don't Fear the Fat ) #7

I’ve never made clean mayo. I’d like to and in the past I’ve eaten raw (unpasteurised) egg but recently I’ve noticed in the UK it’s not recommended!
Over cautious perhaps?

(Polly) #8

What is the worst that could happen?

If you are not immunocompromised you might have a bit of an upset tum for a few days.

If an upset tum would be difficult to handle at the moment, bin the mayo and start a new jar.

Honestly you would see straight away if it had gone bad as it ferments and splits, I know… :joy:

#10

I would eat it then but I have a sturdy enough body regarding this and no worries at all so I don’t say it’s necessarily good for everyone.
I do it with everything edible. I would be more wary with certain items but they are the ones where it’s obvious when going bad…

#11

I would eat it. You can see if it’s bad.

@lee_4_12 If we don’t hear back from you in a long while, we shall assume our advice to just go ahead and eat it was ill-advised.

(FWIW, I would)
