I feel so good

(Keto in Katy) #1

I just turned 55, been keto exactly 4 years.

Some days I just have to stop and reflect on how great I feel, and I am so thankful that I found this way of taking care of myself. I want everyone to feel this way.

I have bulletproof coffee every morning with coconut oil, HWC instead of butter, I like that mix a little better. It is like rocket fuel and I don’t get hungry until the afternoon, some days I just don’t eat until we have dinner around 6:00 or so.

I wanted to post this mostly for people of a certain age who may be getting started with keto and wondering if it works as we get older. We are not all the same metabolically but yes, it absolutely works. I don’t think I felt this good in my 20s.

Last year my 15 year old son (who had put on a lot of weight) decided he wanted to do keto because he heard me and his mom talking about it so much. From June to December he went from 233 lbs (105 kg) to 174 lbs (79 kg) — 59 lbs down (26 kg). He looks and feels great.

Keto for life.

Well done on your own results, and on your son for his.

I’ll be 52 in September … and I feel better now than I did in my 20s. Today I cycled 64km, fully fasted - I never did anything like that in my 20s.

Feeling good is an amazing feat! Glad your son invested in his health too!

Being a male I don’t have much to offer on the menopause issue, but I have read here that some of us need a little more time to become fully fat-adapted, and that there may also be some healing time required depending on the state of our metabolism. So maybe just patience with the process is key here.

One other thing I want to mention that has been huge for me: exercise. Our bodies have evolved to move and work, and I feel that a sedentary life is completely counter to optimum health and vitality. I do a little resistance training (weight-lifting) with my son and it makes me feel amazing. Nothing hard core, you don’t have to lift a ton of weight, but just give the muscles some work and do it consistently. Cycling, walking, running, swimming, yoga, lifting, whatever — choose something you can do on a regular basis and make a commitment to it. Your body may gripe a little at first but it will reward you in time.

thank you! first: apologies for assuming you are female and asking the question on menopause! should have paid more attention!! and second: thank you on the exercise advise - I do think you are right and I will definitely move more - always wanted to do weights but finding the whole gym-thing daunting! I am walking regulary and will start with some dumbell lifts at home. thanks again!

Excellent! We have weights at home because I know that I will not go to a gym consistently, but with weights in my garage I have no excuse not to do it. Make it as easy as possible to commit to the goal.

thank you - will definitely make more efforts to use my weights and elastic bands at home on a regular basis. many thanks for your advise appreciate it!

Truth! Between keto and the workouts I am in the best shape of my life — physically and mentally, it all feels good.
