I Cheated....Here's what happened next:

#1

Labor Day weekend, we drove an hour past Duluth to my SIL’s for the weekend. I stayed the Keto-course- no cheats that I can think of. I hadn’t planned on eating anything bad anyways, but, when you’re a guest at someone’s house - you eat what you’re served (or fast), and get on with it. She had plenty of options available, so it was pretty easy for me to stay on track. I’m so grateful for that!

This past weekend, however, was my cousin’s wedding, and I had given myself permission to go off course a little bit. So, very early Thursday morning my youngest daughter and I caught a flight to the Land of Krispy Kremes and Chick-Fil_A…Atlanta.
I’m not going to go into every single detail of the foods - unless someone wants me to. What I will say is that now, even going off course by just 10-15% (eating non-keto foods) causes these issues for me:
Constipation
Nausea
Massive, massive headaches
Fatigue
Aches
Trouble sleeping
and did I mention Headaches? It was ugly. So, I fasted a good 16-18 hours before I ate anything yesterday.

I’ll be going back to carnivore soon, but I had some salty dill pickle spears last night, and some hot tea. Feeling far more normal this morning, and hoping I will be on my game for work this afternoon.

After taking off 50 pounds, and going to this wedding - seeing relatives I hadn’t seen for a year or more- prompted some fabulous discussions re: Keto. I’m hoping my continued results might convert some. But, there is that element with the mindset, “well, I’ll start it once this event is over with, etc…” And, that was my brother’s mindset for so long. My hope and prayer is that being openly honest about that sort of thinking will break the cycle, and put a stop to the premature deaths in the family.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #2

A valuable learning experience, it sounds like. My sister and I were remarking last night how even just a little amount of carbohydrate can produce nasty results, now that we’ve been keto for a while.

Glad you are back on track and feeling good again. I don’t really think about eating formerly favorite foods anymore, but when they do come to mind, I really consider them now to be “non-food.” Pizza, white bread (which I loved), Little Debbies, donuts, store cookies, pasta, etc., it’s all junk and nutritionally absent.

There are so many delicious options on keto. I made “white chicken chili” last night without the chicken or beans and it was so delicious. It had so much fat in it (butter, heavy cream), and was so calorie dense that I felt guilty eating it. I could have binged on it easily, but luckily confined our portions to about a cup and a half. We usually eat just meat and veggies, or simple foods. I am so afraid if I made some of the keto recipes (casseroles, pizza, etc.) that people post on here, I’d binge on them.
