Big Ag. Every place in the world that’s facing an obesity crisis is also facing a diet made up more and more of industrially manipulated, round-up ready monocrops that yield sugar, blank carbs, weird additives and unhealthy oils, plus cafo animals fed the same for those lucky enough to have meat or dairy. It hardly seems like a mystery to me.
I don’t think anyone is sitting around thinking “I hate people, I like money, here’s my plan…”
But an economic system based on money abstracts the transaction, so you can sort of hide from the fact that your wallet is is growing along with the waistline of the population. Big Ag thinks they’re saving the world from hunger, and they are. Frito-Lay thinks they’re giving interesting and convenient choices to conscious agents who have free will to moderate their eating and balance what they eat, what they drink, and how they move, and they are. But, humans being what they are…
I don’t think individuals are thinking that way. Corporations think “I don’t care about people, I care about profit, and this is profitable.” I think the individuals who have power in the corporations are thinking, “I like people but I also like money, so I’ll find a way to compartmentalize the truth about my product so I don’t have to look at it.” What was that quote …
“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”
I’m tempted to try the Ketogeek Energy Pods just because Fahad says he’s actively fighting against making them hyperpalatable.
Then again, I like hyperpalatable. I’ve found pouring Tony Chachere’s cajun spice (which is basically salt and paprika) over pemmican hits my salty/fatty bliss point. My bliss point for salt is probably much, much higher than the average person’s… but I could be wrong. I’ve never had a salt-licking contest, and perhaps I’m on the low end of the ketogenic average.
