I am on drugs!

(Alec) #1

I have been prescribed an antibiotic, a nasal steroid, and an anti-inflammatory (for asthma). First time I have had any prescription drugs for over a decade.

Any issues with these with keto? Any experience anyone? I am hoping/expecting that there are no issues, but no harm in asking.

Steroids can increase BS (as can being unwell) & antibiotics can make you gain weight (not fat) in the short term but if you need them you need them :woman_shrugging:

Is that blood sugar or bullshit? I think my work colleagues would say the latter! :joy:

#4

In bodybuilders it’s often the latter

Seriously, thanks Safi. I have got my BG monitor with me, so I will do some testing and see if I am out of normal range.

(John) #6

What anti-inflammatory? What dosage?

(Alec) #7

Montelukast sodium, 10mg per day.

(John) #8

Oh, ok. If it was Prednisone, then there are some issues.

I use all of the stuff you are on every single day. I have for years. In addition to the nasal steroid, I also use an inhaled (into the lungs) steroid twice a day. (well, not antibiotics all that time, but I am taking antibiotics currently for a urinary tract issue).

I have lost 95 pounds while taking these medicines. If they have any interactions, I haven’t observed them.

Alec, for what it’s worth, I’ve been on this Med, at the same dosage for a year or so. I had no problems getting into ketosis (when I really buckled down and got serious). After 3 months I’ve now got my blood sugar stable and no dawn phenomenon anymore.

The big if is if you need them.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association – Internal Medicine reveals the statistics. Dr. Katherine Fleming-Dutra and her research team showed that for respiratory or airway tract related illnesses, antibiotic medications were inappropriately prescribed in 45.7 percent of urgent care visits, 24.6 percent of emergency room visits, 17 percent of medical office visits and 14.4 percent of retail clinic visits.

people can become infected with viruses, fungi, or parasites as well, and antibiotics don’t work against those.… yet it’s common to be prescribed antibiotics in this setting.

Completely agree, which is why I waited over 2 weeks of problem before seeing a dr, and also why I haven’t had a prescription drug for over a decade. But after 2 weeks of an infectiony thing not going away, I think I needed to get a professional to cast his eye over me: he did and said I needed an antibiotic, and I have to believe him.

I wasn’t expecting the barrage of drugs he gave me though, but I did give him a fair list of symptoms. He told me he was “keeping my drugs to a minimum”. If this is minimum, God only knows what he normally prescribes!! He must get a commission from the drug companies.

Tested my BG for the first time in a while, and I am very happy with that!!

Slap bang in the middle of the normal range - nice one :ok_hand:

Same here. No issues using Singulair for years.

As far as I know, keto should not be mixed with any other drugs, it may cause some side effects. Be careful. I don’t know how every substance works, but here is one real story. One of my friends was on a keto diet, and he liked fentanyl. He was using it for a couple of weeks, and then he died… a fentanyl test kit was used, and it has shown a positive result. The paramedics said that he died not because of fentanyl, but because of that mix that he was using, keto+fentanyl. Be careful what you’re using, guys.

I have lost 66 pounds so far on Keto being on Singulair daily and I have two puffers -Ventolin and Advair (which is a steroid) that I use when needed and they have not messed up my Ketoing at all --as evidenced in my losing 66 pounds using the 3 medications so I don’t think that they mess up my Keto at all.
