I do see a lot of substitute recipes for Pizza, and lot’s of desserts on many Keto sites: Reddit, Diet Doctor etc. Is the pull of sweets so strong as to have the need for these charlatan recipes? I was never a big dessert person, but I loved Gummy Candies. I have acknowledged the fact that Gummy’s are no longer part of my life. Is it that hard to say no to sweets? Cakes? Don’t these facsimiles of traditional desserts make you realize they are trying to pull you back into the Carb-fold. I would always judge any keto-sweet by the real thing and Keto-sweets will never measure up to the traditional full on sugar laden treats, why torture yourself? The same goes for bread, I admit I made a Pizza using Keto ingredients, I only ate 1/2 it made me sick to my stomach, literally. I won’t make it again. I would have rather had a slice of real-pizza than eat that again, then again a real-pizza slice would have opened the gaping-maw of EAT MORE PIZZA.

I am not judging people, I just find it harder to simulate carb rich foods with Keto-equivalents, they will always be inferior with unintended consequences.

I have found that dark chocolate satisfies just fine.

Which one? I rarely eat it but would not mind options.

I think FatHead Pizza saved me on one or more occasions. Even my non keto teenagers will eat it. I do not make it very often because it is a PITA in my opinion to make. Especially as others in my house can be trusted to cook meat and stews and chicken but I seem to be the only one who can make the pizza. Pizza is probably my favorite food and while I still dream about the real thing, I am mostly content knowing I can have the FatHead one. I think the variety available is great. I did Atkins in the late 80s and gave up after a few weeks because I did not really cook then and took one look at my fridge and realized there was nothing I wanted to eat in it. Now whatever it is, whether eggnog, pizza or cheesecake, I can make it if I really want. I personally do not and rarely use sweetners but knowing I can makes it much easier

For some, it is harder to just reconcile that they cannot have something that they love or was a big part of their life. For others it is easier.

I, personally, feel like I will fail at this way of eating in a big, huge, gigantic way if I told myself that I had to just reconcile the fact that I will never eat anything sweet ever again. Or I will never have pizza. Or I will never eat pasta. That would start a craving in me like none other. Instead, I like to focus on what I can have. I can have all the bacon I want, and I want lots! I can eat a ton of good, fat rich foods that are satisfying and taste great. I can make fat bombs and cookies that have saved me once or twice from dipping into my daughter’s candy stash.

No, they don’t taste like the same thing. There are cakes out there that I wish I could make. I keep trying (not every day, mind you, but for special occasions) because the hope of stumbling onto a great recipe makes me feel better when I think, “I want cake and I can’t have it.”

Anyway, different people have different psychologies. What works for one, may not for another. We’re all just trying to do the best we can with what we have and what we know.

Good luck! Keto on!

Earth is abundant with healthy, keto ingredients, and I see no problem with getting creative with them and creating heatlhy recipes like pizza with them.

I was never a sweets person, and like, savories, so I don’t bbother with “keto” sweets. BUT I like a square of 90% Lindt dark for the magnesium. ;0)

I absolutely love to eat chicken crust pizza. It’s very satisfying and I have to make a double batch bc my family (non keto) love it too. When I go out to eat with them to a pizza joint I eat toppings only and a salad. I do not feel deprived whatsoever in doing this. I guess when given the choice to feel bad (eat carb laden foods).or feel better (on keto) I choose the later. It’s all how you perceive your journey. Make substitutes aren’t for you. That’s something each of us has to weigh. I wish you the best on your journey!

It’s different for everyone. As a binge eater, I have to be careful even with keto foods, and I do worry about getting seduced back to sugar by artificial sweeteners. You have to know your own psychology. Like Jennifer, I too will fail at keto if I tell myself there’s anything I can’t have ever again (my subconscious has been known to go, “Oh yeah? Watch this!”). So I simply postpone the things I can’t have until another day and make a point of enjoying the foods that are good for me.

This business of alternatives is also a tricky one, when addiction is involved. Some people are okay with substitutes, but one of my A.A. sponsors used to tell me that “non-alcoholic beer is for non-alcoholics,” his point being that I could still be triggered psychologically even in the absence of my drug of choice. I suspect that for me, the same principle applies for sugar substitutes, and that this sugar addict had better be damned careful with them. After all, I used sugar as a means of getting off alcohol and ended up merely switching addictions. I’m just not sure it’s safe for me to fool around with erythritol or stevia. But there are a lot of people for whom my issues just don’t apply, and I don’t see any reason why they can’t enjoy sugar substitutes if they want.

I think you may have done it wrong then. Fathead crust pizza is indistinguishable from regular pizza. And I mean exactly that - I’ve had a good dozen people eat it with me and like it and have no idea it wasn’t actual bread.

I am pretty dubious about whether some stuff actually IS keto (sugar alcohols will send my blood sugar up like sugar, usually) but anything that makes compliance easier without compromising goals is worth it.

What recipe did you use? I’ve heard nothing but positives about keto pizza recipes so this is unusual.
I actually prefer the fathead base to regular pizza dough, and having been General Manager at both Dominos and Papa Johns, I know pizza dough :joy:

I made the Carls-Head pizza. My Daughter liked it, it just made me nauseous after 2 pieces.
