I am going mad

(Danielle ) #1

Hi everyone!

I am seriously going mad! About 8 years ago the doctors told me I may have PCOS, and they gave me metformin. I felt so bad on them so I read about the low carb diet, and I stopped taking birth control. I lost so much weight, a bit too much.

However, I also got pregnant, and I have two lovely kids today (4 and 6). However, after stopping breastfeeding my last child (did it 2+ years) I increased in weight drastically. It seems like breastfeeding enabled me to eat carbs without gaining.

Anyway, I started the keto/low carb diet about a year ago (May) and I lost about 12 kg the first months, but since September I haven’t lost anything. It is very frustrating as I got such a good result last time.

I have about M in size and it fits loosely. And my waist is about 80 cm that is good, but I want the excess fat around my ex-preggers-belly gone and around my thighs and arms.

What am i doing wrong? My maximum intake macros per day are 1400 calories, 109 fat, 88 protein and 18 carbs. I do IF 16-18/6-8 every day, and I start the morning with bulletproof coffee. My ketosis range from 1.5-8 and I have a average of 4.

I am going mad and I will soon give up…

I doubt you are doing anything wrong, except worrying too much.

Fat loss does not happen in a steadily downward fashion. It goes in fits and starts. Patience is very important, as is reading and study about insulin resistance and other metabolic issues.

You don’t mention your weight or age. Maybe your body is where it wants to be. That does not always conform to our media-driven expectations.

I suggest you listen to the podcast for motivation, inspiration, perspective and information. 2ketodudes.com

Thanks for all the prompt replies! I am positively surprised!

I just do not understand how my weight has stopped since September. And I am eager to do whatever I can to help my body.

However, I am finishing my last year of my psychology degree, and it may have to do with the increased stress? As my term always start in September every year and end in a May?

I am 29 years old, my weight is about 90 up and down, and I am 170 cm long. My weight has always been a bit deceiving, because I have a lot of muscle mass (ex-swimmer, gymnastic… and so on).

I would start by increasing your fat by 6g and decreasing your protein intake by 13g.

The scale is not your friend. Mine goes up and down 3 pounds every day. The trend is down but it is very slow. Listen to episode #58 of the 2ketodudes.com podcast for a good talk about how fasting/feasting cycles can kickstart your metabolism. When you become adapted to burning fat between 3-8 weeks of keto, you will find fasting comes naturally. Otherwise, how do you feel? any Non-Scale Victories? Every third post on this forum is someone with the same concerns as you-- stalling. It is absolutely normal. The fact is, we don’t need to eat as often as we think we do, and we often ignore our bodies signals that we aren’t hungry because of social conventions that “it’s time to eat”. Search the forum for posts about the effects of stress, you might have a good point there. Mostly, just experiement with different things, search the forum/keep an eye out on new posts for relevant techniques, enjoy your life, eat delicious keto food and don’t worry. You will get there. This is a way of life, not a fad diet. If you listen to the podcast, maybe you will get some perspective on how this way of eating will save your life and maybe the rate of weight loss will become less of a rush for you.

I think spot reducing is hard, but fasting might help get rid of hanging tummies.

These are all very motivating posts!

I have never been an eater. I don’t snack or have any sugar cravings, so low carb/keto is perfect for me. Sometimes I don’t eat for 24 hours and I am fine.
Since I have stopped eating fruits, carbs and sugars, I have no blood sugar drops, or swinging in moods, my skin is perfect and people think I am 20. So, there are lots of positive things about this diet.
However, this summer we are going away to Africa (stressed about the beach ware), and I am graduating and there is going to be a ball and the rest of my class is 20-24 years old. I feel some pressure!

I am going to increase my fat intake and reduce carbohydrates and protein levels. This may work. Although, I am considering cutting out dairy to see if this is stalling me.

One very nasty word - CORTISOL. It can shut down even the most scrupulous weight loss effort. I would stop worrying about your weight and concentrate on finishing the degree and taking care of those babies. When things are on a more even keel, you may find the last bit of weight starts to come off. In the meantime, stick to your macros and KCKO.

You are probably right! I know from my studies that stress is harmful to the body, and have suspected it may be it.

I will as you said just continue with my macros, and take the weight loss after finishing this degree. It is just 8 weeks left now! :star_struck:
