Hyper caloric days

Hello all. I am down 75 pounds since finding the dudes in July. I was strict from the middle of July through September 18th (lost 54 pounds) and then the stress of life sent me on a binge until January 3rd (up 14). I have been strict Keto again since then and am down 35 pounds. I am concerned about down regulating my metabolism, because I am only eating 600-800 calories a day. I am not doing this on purpose I am just not very hungry. Should I try and get 2 high calorie days a week?

While 600-800 calories a day does sound pretty low, it’s honestly pretty contextual. If that’s all your body needs (because you still have plenty of excess fat to feed it, or you are small or whatever), then that’s how it is. Metabolism is a really tricky subject that you can find loads of varying information about. Some may suggest the trick to prevent metabolism lowering is to do full on fasting, or IF or whatever as 0 calories for a while will end up raising your metabolism. Some suggest a binge day (or 3 actually) can be helpful every once in a while (not weekly usually, maybe monthly? Again, all can depend on context and it’s a tricky debatable matter).

I’d say, if everything seems fine, don’t worry too much about it, but it’s also not bad to have the foresight to be cautious (as you are doing). Probably not the most helpful advice, but I’d just say be aware there are a lot of factors that can play into your metabolism, and it’s probably best to check the science on a lot of different sources and do some experiments.

I have days like this. And then all of a sudden I am HUNGRY. I still stay Keto but I eat all the things! Kind of embarrassing really. The hubby starts checking the bank account when I get like this LOL!

If the low days go longer than a week though I will eat some calorie dense stuff to up it. Natural peanut butter or some coconut oils in my tea or coffee to help increase calories without really shoving food in my face.

Listen to your body. It knows more than you do. If low cal days are sufficient and your are not hungry; my vote: roll with it.
