How to start again!

(Joan) #1

I’m so upset, we went on vacation and it seems I can handle about 4 days and then being out of my routine is too much and I start overeating. We’ve been home a week now and I can’t get back. I’m still eating low carb foods, but just too many so I end up with too many carbs. I feel horrible, headaches, stomach pain, irritable and no energy. Every time I do this it gets harder to lower my calories. Ugh!

There’s no magic formula, you just have to bite the bullet. It’s never easy to change your eating habits.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #3

Eating lots of fat will help. You want to replace the calories you are no longer getting from the carbohydrate, and fat stimulates insulin the least. Use enough fat on and in your food so that you are satisfied by what you are eating. It will help, honest! (Works for me, anyway.)

Andrew, from what I can see, you’ve got four posts so far, and all of them link to a ketone supplement. Do you get a commission?

#7

Hmmm… is that a yes or a no?

#8

looks like a yes to me

I’m flagging these posts as spam too.

You’ve been a member of the forum for an hour and are “advertising” these products in multiple threads.

Not cool

I don’t think there’s an Easy St. when it comes to creating and maintaining healthy habits. There seems to be scientific evidence that our body regulates hunger signals according to “its” needs, which may be counter to “our” wants (like the desire to lower our bodyweight set point). So we’re fighting physiology…

When hunger returns or continues after I’ve eaten what I think should be sufficient, I eat a little more. If I’m still hungry, I make a meal consisting of a huge amount of low carb veggies. I eat a 16 oz bag of broccoli smothered in butter. Or stir fry a whole head of cabbage. Or make a colander size spinach salad. The sheer volume/bulk fills my stomach, and I’ve only consumed a few calories/carbs.

Fasting is another tool that I use to stay on track. It helps with food cravings. It allows more dietary flexibility. It helps with self control/discipline. It increases energy (or at least decreases negative symptoms). It rapidly improves metrics (BG, weight, etc).

When you’ve fallen off the horse, there are only two choices: walk or ride.

Hi @Joan1

Have you tried the wonderful supplement called JUST KIDDING!

Really, why don’t you try a bit of a reset?

If you don’t have some dietary restrictions that prevent it, try 3 or 4 days of bacon, eggs and sauteed spinach - only, that’s it.

If you are in this sort of stuck state it might be because you’re giving yourself enough carbs for your brain to think more is coming - so every cell in your body is crying out for more carbs - like an everlasting keto flu.

Cut out carbs completely and I bet it will subside in a few days.

Another option is to kick off keto again with an all out 3-day water fast.

Just an idea.

I need to do another fast. I think that’s the only thing that will help at this point.

Joan
Fasting good, but don’t beat yourself up. No need. Wagon, bump, ouch, happens all the time to all of us. Climb back on board, you’ll soon be back to your old keto self. Beating yourself up is counterproductive, just not necessary. You know what you need to do. Just take care and look after yourself.

(Joan) #15

Thanks. Sometimes I just get really tired

(Alec) #16

And you know that is why you need to get back to keto.

Thanks Alec
