How to help my mum?

type2diabetes

My mum has been a type 2 diabetic since my dad past away in December 1999. She also has thyroid problems and blood pressure and depression.
Recently she has been in hospital to have thrush removed from her bladder. She was lucky that it was caught before it cause her any pain or other complications. She was told that it could have been caused by the diabetes as thrush feeds on sugar. My mum has never been one to help herself by steering clear of sugarary cakes etc and has always had chocolates and ice creams in the house. I tried helping her when I lived at home but now been gone for 7 years. Here weight goes up and down like a yo yo. She was told to go off one of her diabetic meds (forseca) for a few months until they get the thrush under control and then they may be able to put her back on it with antibiotic ( for the rest of her life) to stop the thrush returning. I keep trying to get her to try keto for at least a month but she won’t she says she doesn’t like cooking and doesn’t want to cook bacon and eggs every morning and doesn’t want to cook of a night. Have tried telling her and she has seen both me and my husband do fast so this would be perfect for her but she is not in it. I think this surgery has scared her to monitor the diabetes more but she is after an easy fix diet like supplements etc I want to help but I don’t how. Can anyone recommend an easy to follow diet plan not to much cooking or something to help her. She has been told that her diabetes is under control and is great at a level of 7 :rage:.

please help.

It’s very hard to help someone who doesn’t want to help themselves.

About the only thing that came to mind, are there places that prepackage meals (kinda like NutriSystem, but I don’t think they do keto, I could be wrong??) that she would try eating for a month? The hard part would be her supplementing the keto meal with the ice cream and sweet chocolates.

I know Brian it is so hard and it frustrates the hell out of me to think that I have something that could potentiallyhelp her but she doesn’t want to help herself and that the Drs are pretty much telling her she is ok at a level of 7.

Unfortunately there are no prepackaged Keto meals in our area their are 2 companies I know of in Australia that do them but aren’t in the area. Maybe I should start prepacking food for her.
