Hi I am looking for ideas to use small bits of flavorful ingredients to make food… with ingredients we don’t usually think of as keto, but adding them in small amounts to keto staples keeps the food keto friendly… like lemon, lime, mint, gelatin, vanilla bean, cream cheese, etc. - to make quick food (I’ve been keto since Jan 31, 2018 - lost 23 lbs, and am no longer ill, so this way of life is for me) does anyone want to share their quickie favorite on the go foods?
How to diversify keeping our diets tasty
snacking is counterproductive. to burn bodyfat you need to go long periods without eating food. this is mostly achieved by becoming fat adapted and getting blood sugar swings under control. its a very self sabotaging way of thinking to want to increase the tastyness of snacking, its only going to lead to more snacking and less body fat burning. you will need to get your mind around the idea of not snacking.
Congratulations on your progress with weight and health!!
There’s a million recipes out there in a bunch of good keto websites so peruse places like ketoconnect, ruled.me, diet doctor, etc.
I would just say that keto is not a snacking-friendly WoE. Eating anything (even keto snacks) raises insulin (even if not as much as carbs) and keto is all about lowering insulin load and keeping it as low as possible for as long as possible. When keto is working properly appetite should significantly decline and snacking is not even an issue. If it still is for you, you have some way to go to be sufficiently fat adapted, but when it comes, you may no longer care for snacks. I know I didn’t after 6-8 weeks.
Lowering insulin load is why IF and EF are so often joined at the hip to keto. Fasting for 16hrs in a day and eating in 8 or 18:6 or 20:4 etc all give your body longer without spiking insulin before you cram all your calories in the eating window. Once you do this, snacking is even less of an issue or a non-issue.
Anyway, good luck collecting recipes but you may find they become moot soon.
Agree with@capnbob. In the beginning if my keto journey it was 3 meals and a snack. 2 weeks later its 2 meals no snack. Still later its 1 meal and a snack. This month it varies 2 meals or a really late snack and one meal. But ketoconnect is a really good resource for the snacks.
Maybe I miss spoke with the word snack in general, sorry about that, I realize many people have different ideas of what that word means. I think small and quick. I definetly stay firmly in keto, continue to lose weight, and feel great. When I snack, it is a small quick meal, that replaces my normal. Usually after fasting
many many hours. Often time is not on my side to prepare food. It is however valuable to have others favorite quick prepared favorite food items. Especially if they have diverse ingredients.
