If you concentrate on eating animal products: meat, eggs, high fat dairy as your core diet and then keep in the keto category for everything else, it’s hard to rack up too many carbs. Even if you binge eat. What trips you up are the processed foods. Even “keto” processed foods can hide lots of carbs. Good luck.
How much to keep a check on protein
I am not eating keto or any type of processed food bar bacon as and when cos I am not over keen on it. Mainly sticking to less than 20g carbs every day and just eating steaks chicken and 2 to 4l large eggs avocados oily fish, and cheese which is my downfall I suppose. I also love making peanut butter which I am having to limit myself on. Life will be so much easier when I can start dancing in the evenings again as its boredom that sets me off binging. I stop eating between 6 and 8pm most days and then don’t eat again till between 11am and midday or depending when I have done my exercise. I appreciate your comments
Too much protein messed me up multiple times. I took about 3 months worth of data and graphed it looking for trends. So, now I avoid it, except at dinner. My late breakfast is usually raspberry lemon chia pudding, lunch is salad w dressing and half an avocado, dinner is 3 ounces of meat, salad, and lots of vegetables, usually in a cream sauce. I add fat bom here and there as needed to reach my fat goals. However, if your body responds to regular keto, I would not recommend such a limited meal plan. If you have enough personal data (at least several months) I can direct you on how to do this for yourself using Google sheets. As someone else mentioned, they can eat lots of protein and have no difference. Yesterday, I over did the protein and woke up swollen like I had just had a sugar overload. I think you have to figure out what will work best.
@Karen18 cheese is a big issue for me in many ways, and peanut butter. I now avoid both.
There’s nothing of stop you dancing at home, may not be the same but would still lift your spirits
That could be because you’re not getting enough protein. Protein needs go up as we get older. CrossFit workouts are pretty rigorous. You may also need more protein due to working out.
Ted Naiman believes we keep eating until our body gets the amount of protein we need.
When I first started keto, lower protein and higher fat made me hungry. I started having much better satiety when I upped my protein.
I’m 54 years old, 5’3”, weight about 116 pounds. I get well over 100 grams of protein a day.
I absolutely love them both … I do tend to stick as much as possible to goats cheeses but do enjoy cheddar too. Peanut butter is just so moorish when homemade so doing my best not to make some up as soon as I have finished a jar … perhaps giving myself a few days in between batches hahaha. I find that when I take a pack up to work, a little container with 2 heaped teaspoons in just gives me that fix that I need … it’s when I’m on my rest days that I can overload on it… too easy when its sitting in the fridge begging to be eaten mind you as I have mentioned I am not here to lose weight even though I did lose at the start… water i suspect.
Dancing at home on my own doesnt cut the bacon for me … that’s why i do stair runs. Nothing beats a beautiful waltz or foxtrot around a ballroom or a passionate rumba and jazzy cha cha with a good dance partner… he misses it like crazy too! I have adapted to this non dance life but just so looking forward to afternoon and evening social dances again. … and the emphasis is definitely on social! The people are so lovely and I miss them.all.
I am definitely eating enough protein… I thought I may be eating too much but have noticed that the upper limit on my Cronometer somehow is set quite low and I was concerned I was easily eating 300plus% but now not worrying about that having read a few more posts on the forum. They have been so so helpful and good to read. There are some very experienced ketoers here and I have found it all so interesting.
All my carbs come mainly from green veg but I am essentially a meat eater. I spent a good 10 years plus eating according to my blood group and so keto feels just an extension of that woe. I did find I was eating so many carbs and getting stuck in a rut and not being bothered to cook but just eat ryvitas with different toppings so keto brought me back into cooking and eating more varied foods and I haven’t had a single ryvita since starting… still have the remainder of a packet in the cupboard that I need to chuck out! I couldn’t believe how many carbs I was eating a few months back. I am looking forward to the changes within my body and already starting to sleep better which is brilliant on it’s own as my sleep was dreadful and had even been attending a sleep clinic for a while to address the issues. I am finding that although I am still needing the loo through the night it is not nearly as often and the deep sleep has improved. Hopefully that continues.
