How many carbs do y'all consider a binge

(Cynthia Anderson) #21

Ken I need to get back on track soon. I know that. My old hunger levels, hangry and carb breath are coming back. I’ve had carb breath for a week.

I’m never going fully back to my old way of eating.

One thing I’ve learned the hard way the last 3 weeks is carbs just aren’t as filling as fats and proteins.

I said it would sound harsh and it is. I’m really sorry about your mom.

I was a Cheetos addict. I even loved the baked ones because they were “better for me”. I know you say you are counting them out and you’re counting the carbs but here are the ingredients in Puffcorn. Pretty much everything we’re supposed to avoid on keto. How do you think your body is reacting to these things - regardless of the carb count? I read every single label now and if I read this one, I’d put it back immediately.

And again, it’s not all about the carbs. The ingredients in the meat are astounding.

Since I have started keto in December I have avoided processed food like the plague. For me, I now KNOW I was a carb addict. That is why for myself Weight Watchers, calorie counting, etc, does not work. If I eat any processed food like chips, crackers, tortillas, bread, muffins, etc, I will end up craving it and overeating. I have no self control.

I have found sticking with the outside of the perimeter of the grocery store approach works for me. I stick with veggies, meats, cheese primarily and it works for me. I very rarely have those carb cravings, I eat to satiety, and I am easily doing IF almost every day.

Maybe if you try to focus on whole foods versus “keto friendly” versions of old carbs you will have fewer cravings and more success.

I know life is soooooooo stressful! I am a psychotherapist, I have a husband with prostate cancer that has returned, and a severely autistic teenage son. There is constant stress in most of our lives everyday. I have personally been seeing a therapist and we talk a lot about how I used to eat my emotions and now I am just not sure what to do with them! It is a journey but if we cave each time stress attacks we will not succeed.

I pray your mom gets well soon and that your stress level goes down significantly. KCKO

To me the idea of a binge is eating with a sense of being out of control - past the level of being full. Once every four months we go out and have either a couple of slices of pizza or a plate of pasta. It’s planned. It’s high carb. There’s no way I consider that a binge. It’s a way for us to be able to keep up with this way of eating for the rest of our lives. If we said we were NEVER going to have pizza or pasta again for the rest of our lives, it would be a sure fire way that we couldn’t do this.

I am sure that I sound like a broken record on some of these threads with this book recommendation, but I read this book three years ago and it shut down all of my stress eating. It’s called “The Upside of Stress” and it’s written by a clinical psychologist out of Stanford and it’s based on real clinical studies https://www.amazon.com/Upside-Stress-Why-Good-You/dp/1101982934/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1551019240&sr=8-2&keywords=the+upside+of+stress+by+kelly+mcgonigal

I have lost close to 70-75 pounds since I read it. I absolutely know that had I not taken a new approach to my life’s stressors, I would not be where I am today. Stress eating is also a kind of ‘habit’ so it’s important to break that habit. Sometimes substitutions work. I am a big fan of herbal tea now. When I feel like I am getting a little ramped up, I take a minute for myself with some herbal tea. The ritual of sitting quietly with a hot drink with no caffeine helps me recenter myself.

Finally, you can be a total candy addict and get over it. It’s hard, but it’s possible and totally worth it. My husband, who never had a weight problem gave up his daily M&M habit when he read The Case Against Sugar. The issue with the sugar free candy is it still has artificial sweeteners in it and that can do the same thing to insulin levels as sugar and if you don’t get the insulin levels under control you will be weight loss resistant.

The pendulum swung several years ago from addiction as a moral failing to an issue that is supposedly purely physical and we are victims of it. I don’t agree with the idea that people inclined to addiction to alcohol, or carbs, or cigarettes what have you, are morally deficient, so glad that most of society has abandoned that paradigm. That said, I don’t believe it’s purely physical and that we are victims and have absolutely no power. I think there is strong a physical part of it, but there is a psychological component to it as well. We don’t have to be victims of carb/sugar addiction.

I have zero intention of reading that. Thx anyway.

Besides when has Taco Bell ever put more than the tiniest microsopic hint of their alleged meat in their tacos?

(Bob M) #29

Personally, I got fat never eating at all in any fast-food restaurant.

(Ashley) #30

I actually prefer it to regular ketchup!

(Cynthia Anderson) #31

I think I figured it out.
No more ignoring hunger planning to eat later. No more carbs before dinner or at least very low carbs.
I’ve gotten back on track.

This is what I don’t like about eating out. It’s all the hidden sugar and chemicals and poor fats. Funny, the things they were most worried about in this taco, salt and fat, are not my biggest concern, except the source of some of the added fats and of course the needles carbs.

“SEASONED BEEF: Beef, water, seasoning [cellulose, chili pepper, onion powder, salt, oats (contains wheat), maltodextrin, soy lecithin, tomato powder, sugar, soybean oil, spices, garlic powder, onion powder, citric acid, caramel color ©, disodium inosinate & guanylate, cocoa powder, natural and artificial flavors (contains gluten), trehalose, dextrose, modified corn starch, lactic acid, torula yeast], salt, phosphates. Contains: Soy, Wheat,”

I agree with Wendy. On my off-plan days at home, I have consumed around 100 grams of carbs. I still try to make sure there are no weird ingredients.

I must not be doing keto. I never meal prep or give much forethought to what I’m going to eat! LOL I do have 2 ribeyes in the fridge waiting to be cooked, but that’s about the extent of my meal prep!

But then, I really don’t like to cook and most of the time, don’t bother to think about the next meal. So I fix whatever is handy and sounds good at the time.

And that’s exactly why (one of the reasons) I love keto! No more guilt for eating sporadically! I just wait until I’m hungry enough to want to bother with a meal.
