How many calories ruin a fast?

(Derek Hebeler) #1

I usually will take 40mg of CBD in the morning for anxiety. However, those two capsules are 14 calories combined. I do a 16:8 and fast from 9:30pm to 1:30 pm most days.

Does this break my fast or does it it all depend on WHAT the calories are from?

it is possible it breaks the fast, but I doubt ti does. but so what if it breaks it, after 3 hours (max) from the pills you are back in full ketosis and burning fat. So do not sweat it, if you need the pills you need the pills

Depends on your reasons for fasting, though I expect you’d feel worse if you didn’t take it so I wouldn’t worry too much.

I’ve done EF’s for the past 10 years and as I understand fasting, it’s the non-nutrtional-ketosis that is the flip side / complement to nutritional-ketosis (which is what everyone here is eating).

As long as you stay under the equivalent of 20g of carbs, you will still be in ketosis while fasting and that is the main point.

It is a matter of personal preference what kind of fasting you do. There are MANY MANY types and NOT all of them require “zero calories” or “zero carbs” BY FAR.

As long as you stay in ketosis while fasting, IMO you are doing fasting.

It might not be a “pure” water fast, but that is just one of MANY available forms of fasting.

I wouldn’t even sweat it.

14 calories? That’s < 1% of daily needs. Just sit and stand 3 times and it’s gone

Thomas Delauer says that smoking cannabis doesn’t break a fast and Delauer’s fasting protocol is even striker than Dr Fung’s. Delauer isn’t a Dr but he basis his videos on scientific studies and I belive him to be a good source of information. I don’t smoke cannabis but a do vape CBD for joint pain, headaches, and anxiety. I have always assumed that it wouldn’t break a fast based on the fact that it is contained in cannabis. Eating cannabis would break a fast so that is why a vape CBD rather than ingesting it.

Yeah, but wouldn’t the ensuing munchies from smoking weed surely break the fast?

Sorry, I don’t have much experience with marijuana beyond having to drive my high friends to the 24 hour donut shop after they partook back in high school.

Delauer did bring up the point about the munchies. I don’t smoke weed, never have, but CBD has changed my life and that doesn’t cause the munchies. That is why I vape CBD.
