How high is too high

(Warren) #1

This morning on my Freestyle blood monitor I had a ketone reading of 6.2mmol and a glucose reading of 3.5mmol. Tried it again and it was the same. I feel unbelievable so I am not worried but I would like to know what is too high? and if it is dangerous to go too high?

Not a doctor and don’t play one on the nets BUT, from what I understand, if you are not type I diabetic then the “upper limit” of ketones is very high if not unknown.

Personally, I’ve had them up to 8, after fasting for 6 or more days. I usually feel pretty damn good and rock on.

As many on these forums would say, listen to your body, if you feel good, keep rocking on. If you notice a large shift in how you are feeling, adjust. Not the most helpful thing I know BUT, it’s probably the most accurate advice.

Cheers, Yeah I haven’t tried a long fast while being keto adapted. That is my plan over the xmas holidays while travelling around the top end. I’m thinking it will be a lot easier with keto then with the carbage lifestyle

There is a sweet spot for ketones and too high is a sign of dehydration. I have a graph somewhere, ill try to find it and post it later.

From my experiments, fasting is always easier when starting from a keto/low carb diet.

The “ups and downs” when starting a fast from carbage and going right back into carbage, just nasty.

Good luck and happy holidays!

Over zero = good
Over 10 = too much.
Would be hard to get over 10 without type 1 diabetes.
