How do Ya'll Get Your Potassium?

(Davy) #1

Just started Day 1 of induction phase. 4700mg of potassium is really hard to get. How do you all get that much? I’m just taking potassium citrate from Bulk Supplements and have to take it several times a day to reach 4700mg.
No bananas or potatoes for a while.

You can get it from natural sources like spinach. But salt helps maintain potassium levels, so if you keep your sodium in check, you shouldn’t need to supplement potassium much.

Thanks LeeAnn, I am including spinach in my diet while doing Keto extreme, but you’d have to eat 28 cups of spinach a day to get the right amount.
I’ve been using Pot. Citrate and going to switch over to Pot. Gluconate and/or Pot. Chloride and see if that helps.
I’m taking about 2500 to 3000mg of sodium per day.

Which form does everyone else take?

I use NOW brand Potassium Citrate which supplies 448 mg per 1/4 tsp. Supposedly I should be taking 2 teaspoons of this at least, but I’m lucky if I can manage 1/2 tsp in a day LOL. I add it to my water which I add another electrolyte mix to (which is flavored). Essentially I am not too successful so far…

Fresh wheat grass or powdered wheat grass juice, non-fortified nutritional yeast, ground chia seeds and leafy greens!

Pills? :-1:

I eat avocados. I would NEVER take a potassium supplement without my Dr. suggesting and only after testing. Way too dangerous.

I take a potassium supplement 99mg roughly every other day- I found that it’s the salt which makes the difference for me to avoid cramps on keto. Lots of spinach & kale, & magnesium supplements every day. It can be dangerous to take too much potassium, so as @MiKetoAF says, check that out with a doctor.

I just add lite salt to my coffees and Dead Sea salts to my baths to soak in then never give it a second thought.
