On my first 3 day fast and was wanting to do it safely. Can I use almond milk and little after eat nuts and later dinner? I searched around but couldn’t find definite answers. Thanks in advance!
How do I break my fast?
It’s always best to break your fast with vegetables, leafy greens and meat, in my opinion.
I always break a fast with pork belly, rib eye, garlic prawns and salad.
Like a lot of other things, breaking a Fast can be different for everyone and unfortunately trial and error sometimes comes into play for this… For instance, there are some items that are known (notorious) for creating stomach issues if used for breaking, such as Eggs or Nuts. Now some can use these with no issues, but those two things alone are pointed out quite often for haven’t the opposite reaction for most.
For me, I don’t usually have many issues thankfully, especially since I avoid those items noted above. But they do the same for me when I do eat them, so make sure they are not on the menu. But I’ve also noticed that breaking a Fast that’s less then 48 hrs. doesn’t usually come into play for me, even if I eat Eggs or Nuts. But a Fast over 48 hrs., I’m more careful and have used many things with no issues. I sometimes just do a small Salad, wait about 30-60 minutes and eat a normal meal. (Minus Eggs/Nuts) Or like Katie mentioned, I’ll just eat some meat, usually Steak. (But I have noticed if it’s a really fatty cut of meat, eating too much Fat with the meat itself has done similar to those other items. I’ve also used Sauerkraut in place of a Salad, and this seems to work well too. I remember someone mentioning how it was good for the stomach so tried it and it worked fine for me too. … Good luck.
Just make sure to note any foods that do end up causing you issues. At least this will provide you with what not to break with, and hopefully this will be a short list… but again, everyone’s different.
It’s individual. Many start with some very light stuff and a real smallish meal later.
I eat whatever I desire. The longer I fast, the smaller meal I have afterwards so I probably would eat a few eggs only (I don’t do only salad or soup, that’s nothing to me and my paranoid self totally will want protein anyway, give me those amino acids asap! well, a nice veggie soup with a few eggs sounds perfect, soup is a great food to break any fast in my world). But if I want a jar of pickles, I eat that, I can never know, I broke my 120 hour fast decades ago with a small amount of dried fruits because I desired those (I ate high-carb back then). Oh my, I’m sure it won’t happen again but it felt really great (it doesn’t make sense, I was in ketosis, for heaven’s sake…) And I ate a bigger meal the next day like nothing happened. But it was me, young one with a stomach of steel, I could eat anything anytime in almost any amounts. It’s not quite true now, my body is choosier but still not particularly sensitive so I don’t worry about it.
It sounds safe to eat some nice light meal and a bit later a bigger one but still not too big. You probably get satiated easily after your fast if you are like me but maybe you will be very hungry. I can’t possibly know, we are all different. Listen to your body, it should give you signs.
I broke with bacon and eggs until I had an ISSUE and never again. My husband also had issues with breaking with an omelette.
Now he eats a small plate of charcuterie, waits about an hour or so and then has his omelette. No issues with this. He is breaking in morning so wants eggs. I break in the evening my the third day and I have protein and green leafy veggies. No issues with those. But I can’t eat a lot after a 72-hr fast.
Whatever you do try…don’t do it far from a restroom with privacy (lol just in case your body disagrees with your choices). The least awful experiences I have had breaking longer fasts were with a small amount of raw sauerkraut, then waiting a while, then small amount of olives. The above comments are definitely correct though, everyone is different, hopefully you have a tummy of steel and no discomfort
Totally this! I am usually not very hungry when I go to break a longer fast, and have a light meal. When I do my 3 – 44 hours fasts a week that I am doing right now, I can pretty well eat whatever I want and no troubles.
People usually go for stuff that digests well and some just eat whatever, it doesnt make sucha huge difference but try keep ur first meals small and let ur body get used to eating again, dont hurry it.
