How Do I Become a Keto Coach?

(Tracy) #1

There’s really only 2 things I’m interested in which are cooking and Keto. I’m in my 40’s and never had to opportunity to go to college. Now that I’m at a point in my life where I have a little bit of freedom, I’m wondering if becoming a Keto Coach would be possible. Does anyone know what kind of training is needed? Is it possible to do all the training online? What does a person do with a certification once they have it?

I wouldn’t. Keto’s due for it’s fad downfall and when that hits what will be left is the originals. At the amount of free info out there from a couple years in fad status between books and youtube many aren’t going to be willing to pay for it. This forum and others like it are proof of that.

I didn’t go into details, but I probably wouldn’t use it much for making money. That’s why I wouldn’t want to invest much money into getting certified. I haven’t accomplished much in life due to circumstance beyond my control. It would be fun to say I am a certified something. I’m not sure if I can get a culinary certification online since cooking is very hands-on.

I’m currently in a health coaching program based on ancestral health practices. Ever since I turned my life and my health around with diet and lifestyle and functional medicine, I’ve wanted to do this. My program has a much lower cost than many that I looked at, but you have to be careful about the legalities in your state and how it limits your scope of practice. General education though is okay in all states - individualized is where you can get in trouble. Definitely look into that before you sign up for anything and make sure you feel comfortable with what you can and can’t do. There is a Council for Holistic Health Educators that is very informative.

My program is with the Primal Health Coaching Institute and so far I’ve learned a lot and it’s pretty fascinating! It’s self paced but I’m hoping to be done in about six months.

Oh - my full program is online. I think most are now, but I’m not 100% sure.

After certification, I would be able to either partner/work with a doctor or a dietitian (gives me more flexibility and legal coverage in the state of Ohio) or I could start my own coaching practice which is what I want to do. I want to develop “starter” programs and teach people how to make this a sustainable lifestyle change and eat for optimal health.

Many practice online and some practice in person. Just depends on what you want to do and what you feel comfortable with! If you aren’t doing it so much to make money, just to help people, it gives you a lot more flexibility.

Coaching is probably the easy part. Getting people to pay for it is the hard part I would think.

If you’ve got a design program like Illustrator, just make a certificate yourself, build a website, and go from there. That’s pretty much all these things are worth and nobody else takes your money this way.

There may be licensing laws that your advice would violate. Please don’t advocate breaking the law on an open forum.

Looks like Keto coaching is more risk than it’s worth. I’ll stick to a culinary degree if I go after anything.

I say do it! If you’ve not really studied before, choosing something you’re passionate about and doing a short online module would be great. I’m wondering if the dietdoctor site offers some short courses? Have a look around, check the price and what they offer and go for it!

Then once you’ve done one course you can do the next. Let us know what you choose
