Well, have something liquid besides water and tea and get a vitamin boost.
How bad is natural fruit juice for keto?
What vitamins do you think you are deficient in?
I’d say take a supplement over drinking juice or just eat some more meat.
Freshly squeezed juice contains the pulp, more vitamins, minerals, and other nutritional compounds like enzymes and flavonoids than the canned or bottled options you find in grocery stores?
I like to save the peels to make digestive bitters! Which are great to sprinkle on a delicious crunchy tasty salads.
Occasional juicing is ok on keto!
Occasional, but not every single day…
I’m bored of this topic now so going to unfollow. It seems to be case of “I’m going to ask for advice I have no intention of following because my mind is made up and I’m convinced I know better” and it’s fine to do your own thing if you genuinely believe you know better, but don’t waste everyone else’s time asking for advice and guidance when you’ve got no intention of listening.
There’s a thing called tailoring advice to your own needs, which is exactly what I did. I went from wanting to do a fruit juice to something more balanced that doesn’t personally kick me out of ketosis or increase my blood sugar. All advice and guidance given here were greatly appreciated (yours included). But if you expect people to follow your advice to the letter, take your version of things as absolute truth and never adapt it to their needs, sad to tell you but life just doesn’t work that way.
You’re free to unfollow this thread at any time without having to explain yourself and throwing a tantrum like a three year old who leaves the playground because the others don’t want to play his game.
Hopefully she already unfolowed this topic because Allie is a very cool lady who rescues swans, geese, chickens, catd and dogs. And is also very knowledgable about keto and walks the talk.
No one questioned her undeniable cool-ness. =D
Here’s one more thing to add to her keto knowledge and yours too for that matter in case you did not know. Keto is a personal journey. I know there are rules and guidelines and some people are more catholic than the pope, but keto is not a one-size-fits-all at the end of the day. Not everybody has the same metabolic rate and same response to foods. While some need to do strict keto to reap the benefits and remain in ketosis, others can be a little more permissive with their diets.
In my case, a daily juice made from 1 carrot, 3 sticks of celery, 1 knob of ginger and 1 apple racks a grand total of about 20 net carbs which is not that bad and most certainly doesn’t impact my progress or overall health.
I’m not looking to offend anyone or start an online fight which forums are so notorious for. I had a question, consulted with other ketovores and with their help I reached a solution which in the end works for me as proven by my blood sugar level, insulin response and ketone results that I constantly monitor. If you think it won’t work for you or don’t have the means to track your body’s response to it, then simply don’t do it.
Whether Allie or someone else want to understand that it’s really out of my hands.
I never said otherwise. My skinny husband can eat up to 100 carbs per day without gaining weight or have his joint pain come back from inflammation. He was very strict starting out until he lost all the weight he wanted - wasn’t much as he was a TOFI.
This gives him waaaaay more flexibility in his diet than me but that’s ok. He eats more keto than SAD and it supports my WOE since there is no carbage or processed foods around the house so I am happy
I find myself in what you said about your husband. Much love and thanks for the story to both of you!
What about Crystal Lite flavors? I like the lemon flavor. Fruit juices are one of the things that had to go. A few times a year I eat some apples from a tree my great great grandfather planted in the 1880’s. That’s enough. The only snack food in the house is HB eggs. My desert food is ice coffee with heavy cream and stevia. All my carbs are in a big salad, 42 grams net. There is endurance training called the Maffetone Method relying on a HR monitor. I do it on an Airdyne instead of running. The more fat adapted I get the less I seem to crave carbs. The Maf training amps it up a lot.
Here is what I buy at the local walmart for less money.
I see it’s also packaged in a more bulk quantity.
Crystal Light makes other flavors that are also good but lemon must be the best seller. Walmart also has a store brand that’s probably made by CL.
Well if it works for you then I’m genuinely happy for you.
Just by looking at the ingredient list, I can tell you they will not agree with me unfortunately, as my body reacts very poorly to Aspartame and Maltodextrin in general.
But lemonade is fine on keto, it has close to zero carbs if one just mix water with lemon juice… Or am I too simple? Sometimes I put some ginger or elder-flower or mint in
(It’s a rare treat in my life but I use lemon juice way more often, it seems a perfectly fine ingredient to me.)
Why to overcomplicate things instead of using proper ingredients? I hate the extremely horrible taste of aspartame with a passion anyway. And why to put sweetener into everything? People are so odd. I want the fresh sour lemon juice when I fancy a lemonade, not overly sweetness (as it’s surely very very sweet, just how people like their sweet things for some reason). But if I want it to be sweeter, I put a little bit of some sugar alcohol into it, just the amount I want at the moment, I like this flexibility. Or even some berries, I never was into that, though, lemon is already a nice fruit.
How wonderful! It takes so long to get fruit trees established. We got maybe half a dozen timy apples from 2 of the 4 trees we planted 4 years ago. And about 10 cherries for the first time. We don’t spray so all organic grown on my own land and we enjoy in season. I wouldn’t dream of juicing them. Too much work to get them to my table so I am going to enjoy every morsel!!!
It’s definitely better than soda, I’ll tell you that for sure. Particularly if you add mint, ginger and/or elder-flower for a boost of anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.
As I’ve learned and seen different things work for different people on keto throughout the years, I tend not to judge that harshly anymore. I personally prefer using the prime ingredients as well, but I also understand they may not be so readily available for others.
While the stuff @charlie3 linked is not what most people would classify as 100% healthy, I don’t think it will hurt his ketosis and if he’s got a strong liver those small traces of compounds will be filtered out of his system.
I don’t actually judge them, I wasn’t like this all my life and I am among the most undisciplined hedonistic folks anyway, judging isn’t what I ever should do.
I just wondered from my current viewpoint. These drink things are pretty pointless to me, the simple proper stuff should be so much better…
And I use sweeteners myself just not in my drinks, usually. So I understand the using of sweeteners, actually but as I change, I see things from a no-sweetener lenses sometimes. Maybe I shouldn’t write down every kinds of my thoughts. But I still think sweetening is overused, people are used to too many sweetness in modern times and it’s not so good.
I too can’t believe how long this thread has gone on…“Not that there is anything wrong with that”.
It is this easy, juice and keto are opposed to one another. That said if you can make it work for you then rock it! It only needs to work for you.
Irony duly acknowledged. And because this thread was already too long, you felt the need to join in and say something which has already been said, dissected and accepted multiple times. [slow clap]
Y’all, if there is a way to close this thread and mark it as solved, please let me know before one more arrogant SOB comes riding in on their mighty high horse to slap us over the face with their absolute truths then low-key drop insults when some of us don’t fully play along.
