How are you doing? I'm a bit stressed

#1

I’d like to hear how you are doing and managing with the current threat of this virus.

These times have been nerve-wracking for me, to say the least, with this plague! Then, my MIL died here at home Sunday evening. We’ve been caring for her for years. She had dementia and couldn’t care for herself. She was almost 92 years old. Most of the responsibility for her care fell to me, which I didn’t mind. She was a very sweet soul!

Our state is under “stay at home” orders (Virginia), so we stay. We were not going out before this order anyway.

I’ve continued to stick to my Keto way of eating (over a year and a half now), but have probably consumed more than usual due to stress. I’ve been really craving more fat.

I want to fast today. I really want to, so I’m putting it in print here! Hopefully I can hold out! I find it harder to skip eating when everyone is always home and I make meals for my husband and boys, but I have done it lots of times before and CAN do it again today.

My husband has been working from home now for 3 weeks. It’s different and kind of nice. He likes it a lot. I suspect it will be at least another month, or possibly longer before they will want him back in the office. By then, so many things will have changed.

Wish I could talk my husband and our sons into eating lower carb! My husband has moved away from being anti-Keto to admitting it clearly “works for some”. LOL! I don’t think he will change unless he faces a health crisis.

Our youngest (15 yo) seems the most willing and does eat lower carb most of the time. I do prepare lower carb meals for them as often as possible but do have the foods they crave in the house (husband wants). Even though they are teens and young adults I try to limit snacks. It’s hard when they are so old not to nag and gently ask if they are really hungry. I have to acknowledge that they are responsible for their own choices.

On the positive side, I don’t think I’ve gained any weight as my clothes fit the same. I’ve been working a lot in my back yard. Yesterday and today it has been cold and rainy, but I think it will be nice again tomorrow.

This year I should have a nice garden full of low-carb veggies! I have broccoli growing, some peppers, radishes, green beans (higher carbs), zucchini, cucumbers, and for my family, tomatoes. I also wanted to plant bok choy (love the stuff), but don’t know if it’s too late here.

I have some new roses planted, will have a Mamoth sunflower garden for the birds (and pretty) and lots of other flowers. I love attracting humming birds too. I’ve started most of my flowers and vegetables from seeds since that is cheaper!

I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy; even when they are older. Hugs, I know that this is a difficult time for you and your family.

This is definitely a plus, especially when you are under so much stress at the moment, so congrats for that =).

Your gardening adventures sound awesome, and that will be lovely to have so many fresh, healthy vegetables to eat when they all come to fruition! Your flower garden sounds like it will be very beautiful too and hopefully full of darling little birds to admire. I hope that the Spring weather and the beauty of nature will help to brighten your spirits and I am sure that your dear mother in law is smiling down at you all, and will be watching over you all now as your guardian angel. I wish you peace and blessings at this difficult time. Take care =).

Thank you Susan! You are always so encouraging!

We have to postpone the funeral until some time in June. That’s going to be weird, but the family can’t gather until this whole Corona virus is over.

I love flowers, birds and sun-shine! And this year I am healthier than I have been in years, so I’ve already been outside enjoying the fresh air. It helps clear my mind and heart and refreshes the soul.

How is your daughter doing, Susan? Has she recovered yet?

Thank you for asking. Thankfully, Sarah thinks that she just had a Flu bug, not the Corona now that she is feeling much better. She had a bad dry cough, her chest was wheezy and she had chest pains from all the coughing, and aches and pains all over, a low grade fever, and headaches, and some bathroom issues. She feels that she had a Flu bug, mixed with her allergies due to the change from winter to spring, and she does have Asthma as well (which was triggered by the change of climate as well) --because she is feeling so much better now, it was probably a mix of all these things. She owns a house with her boyfriend of almost 11 years (they are 25 and do plan to get married and have kids at some point, just not yet, as she is still doing a post grad diploma atm in Human Resources, has her BA in Psychology and Criminology and just wants all that over and working for a bit before marriage and children --kids in general seem to wait a bit longer now a days I have been noticing --although my eldest married at 22 and his wife was 21 and they have been married since 2013 and had their son in January of 2017 so they were younger then average and are really cute together and very well matched, so some still marry young). Sorry, I digress – her boyfriend that lives with her and has been working from home (he is a Mechanical Engineer) didn’t get sick at all during all that time that she was sick for a couple of weeks, so we don’t think that she had the Corona, because of that as well. I suppose she might have had a mild case of it? but we are guessing that it was just a Flu Bug, coupled with her allergies and asthma.

Me too!! I totally agree. Sitting in the back yard with my little grand daughter (that will be 4 in July and lives here, with her mom too) and watching her play and have fun on her swing set is great. We got the swing set the end of August last year for half price from online Walmart and that was a very good decision, as her (and all our future grand children) will get much enjoyment out of it). It has 2 swings, a double swing, and a slide on one end and a trampoline on the other end. It is great, and is a big bonus now with us wanting to stay around the house!

I’m glad your daughter is well! She is probably right that it was not the dreaded Corova virus if her boyfriend didn’t catch it.

These days, it is really nice to have a yard! I’m glad you have one and that your granddaughter can go outside and play. It must be very difficult for those who don’t have a way to get outside without taking a health risk!

You are right about young people waiting longer to get married. They tend to want to establish themselves in careers before they settle down and make commitments.

Yes, the yard is awesome, our five kids always spent a lot of time in it over the years with their friends; and now Gabriella is enjoying it a lot too =).

I hope that all of our friends and family stay healthy and well all during this. I know that yourself and others on the forum have lost family members lately, and my sympathy goes out to all of you. The grieving is hard enough, without the extra hassle of the hold on funerals and social distancing =(.
