Hormones / Periods / Female Shark Shit

I started Keto again on 30 April
I have not had a period since :frowning:
I don’t know what’s going on
It may be a bigger issue
Last year I started getting irregular periods for the first time in my life. I’m really bad at taking my contraception, will miss a few days and then just eat all the pills in one go to catch up (don’t judge me lol).

Anyways, my period was really screwed up so I decided once I finished the pack of pills, I wouldn’t start taking them again until I had a proper period. That day hasn’t come.

So now i’m stuck in this position where I haven’t had a period for a few months, have stopped my pills waiting for it to come, but I still need protection from sex. Not that i’m having a great deal of it lately with how shitty I’ve been feeling.

I had lost 17 pounds but i’m back down to 15 because my weight is creeping up again and I have stalled and gained over the last few weeks.

I am getting cramps like you normally would a few days before but nothing is happening.

What do I do?
Just wait until my period comes and stay unprotected or just randomly start taking my pills again (I thought you’re only supposed to start after the last period)

It’s so frustrating. If I didn’t like my boobs so much I’d hate being a girl!!! !

There are alternatives to BC. You can get a contraceptive film you just use as needed basis. Or get a depo provera shot every 3 months. I don’t know much about the pill to be honest, but i do know that taking them erratically worse than not taking them at all. It’s pointless at that point because once you go past one day, your screwed At least using nothing you know you are unprotected.

Honestly I’ve just heard horror stories about different types of contraception.

People getting the mirena, the rod in the arm, and gaining horrible amounts of weight.

The depo is the same, weight gain. I put on weight really easily so i’m deathly afraid of getting one and not having any control over the weight loss. Everyone I know has either stopped or gone back to the Pill.

If anyone could give me advice on whether or not I should just start taking it or wait, please let me know. I’m freaking out a bit.

Well I’m sorry I don’t know any answers to help you there. Just the boring “ask your doctor” type of advise. I definately wouldn’t start taking them until you had a pregnancy test though. (Don’t hate me for saying it).

Hahaha, that would be the last thing I need.
My boobs don’t hurt at all, which tells me I’m not.
I better test tho, damnit, I could spend that money on avacados!

Lol. Your boobs don’t always hurt. Well maybe yours do lol. Anyway good luck figuring this all out. I have some avocados in my fridge is give you if I could. God knows they are going to be over ripe in an hour

LOL @ over ripe, hilarious.
And yes I’ve been pregnant before and know immediately because my boobs ache. I don’t get a lot of body aches so when the boobs hurt I know there’s a bun in the oven. Fingers crossed no bun. And I feel like I have to say sorry for these comments for anyone who IS trying, apologies if it seems insensitive.

I think you need to be very careful with hormonal contraceptives. You seem very gung-ho about it! I would have an entire cycle off them and use condoms for a month. Let your body rest from the onslaught of artificial hormones then begin again at the right time. If you missed some days then took loads you need to do a pregnancy test without doubt. If you’re pregnant and taking contraception it can impact a growing featus.
Personally I don’t take any hormonal contraceptives and never have. I don’t trust them or their side effects/long term health effects. I’ve been married 12 years and we’ve always used condoms and always will because of my refusal to mess with hormones as they are a nightmare once unbalanced.
If you decide to continue taking them you really ought to try and follow the guidelines as you may be screwing up your system by taking none, followed by a handful. Hormones aren’t innocuous; they do have a direct effect on health and well-being.

Thanks for your advice Sarah.
I think I exaggerated a bit with the whole ‘taking a bunch of pills’. I would only ever miss 1 or 2, then take the 2 the next day and then go back to the 1, but i understand what you are saying about causing more issues. I think it’s best to go to the doctor and do a test regardless. Hopefully they can give me some insight into whats going on. Thanks again

It can take several months for hormones to settle after coming off the pill. And missing even one tablet makes the contraception unreliable, so ‘catching up’ doesn’t get to correct that, I am afraid.

My experience of any additional hormones (have been prescribed several diff ones over the years) is that they just screw up normal systems. The pill, the mini pill, progesterone supplements… all caused things to work wriongly for months. Always with weight gain (of course). The least disruptive has been the mirena. Tiny tiny dosage. Have actually lost weight on it ! Yay!

You will probably take a lot longer than April to June to normalise. I would give it at least another 6 months before trying to introduce another thing to potentially upset the system.

I do agree that you should leave it longer to let things settle. I avoided taking the pill for years as I didn’t want to mess up my system, hubby chose not to have a vasectomy so had to use condoms! But over the last couple of years I’ve had so much pain (I self-diagnosed pelvic congestion, hormone related, nurse agreed) so have tried the mini-pill for the last 9 months & I’ve been fine, no side effects & it’s cured the pelvic pain, yay! If I remember right,- you can google it- that you can take the mini pill any time in your cycle so that might be an option for you? I think it’s desogestrel I’m taking at the moment, if that’s any help, but I would discuss it with doctor/ contraceptive nurse.

Thanks for the advice, I don’t know much about the mini pill so I shall do some research

I’m peri-menopause so it’s recommended for ‘older’ ladies, but anyone can take it I think!

(LeeAnn Brooks) #14

How about just use condoms for the short term.

(Katie the Quiche Scoffing Stick Ninja ) #15

Honestly, I’ve never made my partner use condoms before, I doubt he’s about to start now!
Anywho, I wasted 9 bucks on a pregnancy test, negative result.
Thanks for the responses, I will go see my doctor
