Homemade Chinese chili oil

(Karla Sykes) #1

Okay fair warning this is going to be a long post with lots of pictures. I wanted to show you the pictures so you would know exactly how I cooked it and what it look like.

Here are the ingredients you will need

  1. one cup of Sichuan chili flakes
  2. 4 tablespoons of crushed red peppers
  3. 2 tablespoons of Szechuan peppercorns
  4. 1 quart of 100% peanut oil
  5. (4) five star Annalise
  6. 2 tablespoons of whole black peppercorns
  7. one cinnamon stick
  8. one teaspoon of pink Himalayan salt
  9. 2 bay leaves
  10. 4 Jumbo raw peanuts

How to prepare?
You will need to put the following in a metal saucepan: crushed red peppers, 4 tablespoons the Szechuan peppercorns, the peanut oil, the five-star Anise, the whole black Peppers, the one cinnamon stick, bay leaves, and the peanuts.

Let them boil for one hour on a very slow low Flame.

Here are the pictures

OH MY GOODNESS!!!

Esp nice to make on a cold autumn/winter day. :fire: Do you just pour a cup of it all over cooked chicken/veg?

Would make great Christmas presents in fancy bottles…!

Being that I like a bit sweeter hot, if I need it sweeter I might add one tablespoon maple syrup or lakanto syrup or erythritol afterwards - would have to experiment. The Anise and Cinnamon will sweeten it some though.

(btw organic unsprayed peanuts/oil are preferable because of high levels of soil pesticide absorption by the peanut’s papery shells - usually only found at the natural foods stores or online shops etc).

Brilliant! Did you actually mean just 4 peanuts? It looks like you have a few more!

Okay thanks for the info on the natural organic peanut butter oil

I usually use a tablespoon on different foods and it just pretty much give it flavor sometimes I will use the oil justify my eggs in it and it gives it extreme flavor it’s really nice to have just sitting next to your things in your pantry

I use for peanut shells after I was done I literally picked up for peanut shells and then I crack them open and they end up being like 8 individual peanuts for the entire container of oil

Also keep in mind I eat keto foods but not everybody in my house so when I cook I cook for everybody with the twists with most of the food being keto base but I will add in things like the sweet potatoes but I simply don’t eat those. I will add in more peanuts in jar the oil in a different container for everybody else. So I have my own jar and then my house have a jar with additional peanuts. I’m not the only person in my house so I have to cook for everybody but most of the foods that I could I would say 90% are keto base but I may throw in other stuff for other people in my house. Like if I was going to take away sweet potatoes my house would go nuts

I wasnt judging, just making sure I got it right. I eat quite a few nuts, especially in cooking

No I didn’t think you were judging I was simply mentioning it so you would understand the concept of the pictures

@Karla_Sykes I noticed on another thread you posted a pic of a carby (17g?) chili oil in connection with one of your recipes. (The cabbage one, I think.) What I’m impressed about is that you then proceeded to find/make your own version of something that you enjoyed. That’s really cool and a solid sign that you’re head is in the right spot and you’re on the right track. :+1:

Yes I forgot the name of the poster but when I posted that sauce that I bought in Krogers she pointed out to me about the high carb value and so I did look up how can I make this my own self and still enjoy it and I YouTube it and I found it

Thank you!

Yes, I feel similarly about the jar of ghee I make, and lemon pickles - nice to see them there
