Home from holidays.....where’s the fat?!

(Trudy) #1

Been away for 10 days to New Zealand. Just want to say, what an amazing country and a big shout out to Bacon Bros. If you are in Christchurch, drop in and grab a bun less burger, Devine!!! I’m so pleased that I weigh the same as I did when I went on holidays, another first for me.

Back on topic, I tried to stay as low carb as I could without ruining the holiday, used intermittent fasting BUT I struggled to find fat in foods. The delicious steaks were lean even though I added garlic butter. The fullness I usually experience was lacking and I found I was eating salted peanuts after meals just to fill a spot.

What do others do when they are away from home? I intentially tried to remain low carb, I didn’t want to spend my holiday bloated and tired, just needed more fats I think.

Progress update, 39kg down since March 18th, 2.6kg away from MY goal (not sure where my bodies goal weight is).

Thanks for listening.

I travel with macadamia nuts, olives and coconut oil packets (I’ve gotten some from Trader Joe’s). Maybe find a container to carry some butter with you?

Edit: hard boiled eggs have a great keto macro ratio.

It’s possible that you just needed more calories. Fat is very calorie dense, so one of the issues with LC is that it can be hard to consume enough energy. So one solution is make a conscious effort to eat more. Double or triple servings. Another solution is to carry calorie dense foods like nuts or seeds. Third solution solution is to increase your carb intake a bit with a low glycemic food like avocado or beans.

I am away from home right now on a business trip. My biggest problem isn’t finding acceptable foods, but avoiding eating because it is “time to eat.” Meals are paid for so I can have a big breakfast, nice lunch, and full dinner for free, whether I am hungry or not.

Plus there is the social component - I am with another business associate and a vendor so we go to lunch and dinner together.

I am eating really great meals but feel like I could be skipping some of them. Hard to pass up free steaks, salmon, lobster, etc with a side salad and low carb veggies.

Free breakfast buffet of eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, cheese, low carb berries awaits me right now but I’m just not hungry yet. Voluntarily starving in a land of plenty.

Followup on my own post… I decided after posting this morning to test my resolve and skipped free breakfast and free lunch and just drank water and coffee.

Easiest thing in the world… ended up as an impromptu 24hr fast. Had a great but not excessive dinner (salmon, scallops, salad) for my OMAD meal. I did not feel hungry at all during the day.
