Holiday Orlando

(Nicola Blair) #1

We’re planning a family holiday to Orlando in October next year. We went to Orlando before keto (4yrs ago) and found the food overly sweet then, but very few options out with. Any tips on ways round it ?

Just got back from vacation and didn’t have any issues staying on keto. They had a continental breakfast every day and I’d have hard boiled eggs (the other eggs were scrambled out of like a 55 gal. drum), sausage, bacon. Didn’t eat lunch but would have cocktails and snacks every day. I had packed a container of gouda cheese, pepperoni, tuna salad (with celery sticks), chicken salad eaten plain - very satisfying.

When my husband and I went to Orlando years ago (Disney World), we had purchased the meal plan. I did notice that barbecue is very popular down there and that many of the selections included barbecue.

I would just stick with cheeseburgers (without the bun), roasted chicken or ribs (ask if they have it plain), steak, pork chops (add some butter because they really aren’t that fatty), heavy salads with meat, eggs and full fat dressing.

It’s nice to have a trip to look forward to on the horizon.

We went to disney last January. 2 of the 4 of us keto.

Skipped breakfast. IF each day. Bought some dukes sausages for the room. Had a car so had a cooler and cold dry rub chicken wings, plus cheese.

Dinner - we searched for local, off property, out of tourist area mexican and cuban. Oldest lost 5lbs I think. I lost 2 lbs if memory is not failing me.

We did find some keto food in the park. Turkey legs etc.

Also, youtube has videos on keto at Disney. If you are just eating in Orlando I don’t know if there are videos. Fish, Steak, Steak, Steak, Burgers. Oh, five guys is totally great and they have 5 guys burgers there.

Yeah, for 5 guys, you can get the burger wrapped in lettuce (no bun). I usually get two of the largest burgers, without mayo (not sure what’s in that), but mustard, pickles, etc., whatever you like.

I don’t eat their often but I get the 2 pattie cheeseburger with bacon. I get triple pickles and jalapenos peppers, mustard. Sometimes extra bacon. Was thinking about going for lunch this week the day after I break my fast or the day after that.

I like 5 guys, and we go there a bit. I do eat the peanuts, too. One of the few times I eat “nuts”, as I’m trying to avoid PUFAs.

I eat the peanuts also. But I don’t go often.
