Having problems with fast heart rate since doing keto. Is this a common problem? I have been working on this for about 4 weeks and no change yet on the fast pulse issue. Also lightheaded due to this. Any suggestions?
High heart rate question
3 things come fast to mind.
drink plenty of water, don’t skimp on it. do that today.
next, make sure you eat salt. do that now.
third, eat. eat big meat. eat great meat and protein. load up on food and make the body full and happy.
do that and see how ya feel tomorrow. that is what I would recommend and I think you are seriously ok, I think you might be ‘limiting foods, salt, water’ in some form you are missing in a way???
Wish you nothing but the best and I think if the above 3 things are met and you feel bad still in any way you might want to see a Dr just in case but I think if the 3 above are met you should be fine.
remember also, toxin dumps, adaption can cause a ton of crazy in everyone we must all get thru when starting. again the above mentioned can help.
What? … please specify. Your ‘fast rate’ may be my ‘low rate’.
Thanks. I think I want getting enough salt for sure. Started taking supplement and will add more to my meals. I think I’m getting the water, but maybe not enough protein while trying to balance the macros.
Heart rate is about 92 beats per minute. Usually around 63. If I walk up stairs rapidly, my heart feels like it’s pounding
Hi Linda welcome to the forum.
Yes, increased heart rate is experienced commonly.
As mentioned the most common cause can be changes in electrolytes (salts) as the body responds to nutritional ketosis.
The threads search below have more information:

High heartrate sometimes indicate that your body is doing more work to pump blood around your body. This may be due to dehydration (if you have been peeing a bit and not replenishing water, this may be why).
A high heart rate may also be a sign of electrolyte imbalance ( again possible if you have been peeing a bit as electrolytes are lost in urine and are not replaced unless you make a conscious effort to).
Start with salt (2 TSP or 3500mg a day and tweak as needed), increase your intake of potassium and magnesium through supplements or food (start from 1500mg a day of potassium and go up to 4500mg as needed, for magnesium aim for 400mg a day at least)
Thanks so much. I have started to increase water and electrolytes over the last 2 days and I can already feel a difference.
You only need drink water to your thirst, don’t force it if you’re not thirsty as that will just flush out more electrolytes. Salt is very often the biggest issue for people x
